Director's Corner

It's February...the month for Valentine's Day...the month of Love. And this month, I am reminded of the beautiful scripture verse in James 1:17, "Every good and perfect gift is from above." How grateful we are at WFCM for every client, employee, volunteer, ministry partner and supporter that we have.

We have settled into our new Client Services and Food Pantry facility and Thrift Store and we want to tell you how much we love being there. While the move seemed daunting just a few months ago--especially during December--we are grateful that we are no longer homeless and that we are able to provide for our clients and customers again. God is faithful and so are our customers!

As we mentioned last month, we received a generous pro bono donation for all our electrical work at the Client Services and Food Pantry facility...thank you again, Dynalectric, and also many others who provided their service and support.  The cost of moving hurt us financially and we have had to cut back on many of our expenses and make sacrifices. Some of you may be wondering how you may be able to volunteer your time, talent and/or resources, so I've created a Needs List:
  • Our Thrift Store sign is sitting in storage and needs to be displayed so that it will draw new customers. The cost to display is $1,200-1,500. We need to contract a licensed professional to display our sign and need financial assistance to help cover the cost of this expense.
  • Our Food Pantry has a small sink that is not usable and we need a new one so that we can wash produce. The approximate cost for a new sink and installation is $500.
  • Our Client Service offices and Food Pantry are unpainted and have no baseboards. The estimated cost is $5,000. We would also welcome volunteer service.
  • To provide regular ongoing technical support, inclusive of but not limited to server maintenance and  data back ups to safeguard our resources, and to cover the prior installation of Wi-Fi and other services, it will cost $1,500. We have a company to provide the support.
  • Our Thrift Store needs a full-size refrigerator for our employees and volunteers. We will accept new or used donations.
  • Now that both facilities have been established, we have a need for volunteers. We have availability in the Food Pantry, Thrift Store and Front Office. If you feel you can lend us some time, please contact our Volunteer Manager, Annette Bosley.
God bless you,
melissa

Testimony: Debra & Steven

Debra and Steven are parents of 2 young children. Steven was staying home with the children while Debra worked. The financial mentors worked with this family to reduce their monthly expenses. We worked together to get their back rent paid and their utilities current. They were able to move into a more affordable community with less expensive rent. Debra was able to get new employment and that increased their income by 50%. With the regular meeting and support, Debra and Steven became confident in their ability to manage their household. The family was able to afford child care and Steven returned to work. The family is doing well. With the grant provided by the Pathways for Success program, this family has a very secure future.

WFCM Thrift Store Grand Re-Opening

Thank you to all of our volunteers, the Board of Directors and employees who helped prepare the Thrift Store for our introduction to our community the weeks leading up to the big day, as well as supported the Thrift Store on its Grand Re-opening day Saturday, February 16. The event was exciting, well-attended and well-worth all the efforts. We earned $3,199 for the day of and sales leading up to Grand Re-opening day.

The Thrift Store has adapted to its new space and looks great. It is now located at 13939 Metrotech Drive in Chantilly, VA 20151 near Don Churro Cafe and Lotte Grocery Store. The telephone number is (703) 956-6955. Our hard-working Thrift Store employees, Lillian Diaz, Daniel Roca and Kitty Beachy, as well as many loyal volunteers have dedicated long hours to ensuring that the Thrift Store is clean, organized and contains appropriate inventory for our customers and clients. Donations are now accepted Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

Adults, as well as students who are 14 years of age and older available, may volunteer in the Thrift Store (12 & 13 year old students may volunteer with an adult).

WFCM Food Pantry News

"Lord you are our dwelling place in all generations." - Psalm 90:1

We have been blessed by two great facilities, one for our Food Pantry and Client Services and one for our new Thrift Store. Many thanks to all those who helped us make these transitions successful. We ask for your continued patience and prayers as we continue to restore operations to full capacity. We have limited storage space at this time and ask that everyone prayerfully consider conducting running food drives in late spring, summer and early fall when our shelves are in most need. We are so grateful for all those who kept us in their prayers during this transition. Thank you and God bless you.

Prayers
  • We pray for the perseverance and stability of our Pathways to Success families as they are in there is only 2 months remaining in the program.
  • We pray for clients' children, that they will be safe on the streets and diligent in their studies.
  • We continue to pray for all who are suffering and have physical, emotional and/or financial concerns.
  • We pray for the continued health and strength of our clients, employees, Board of Directors, ministry partners and volunteers, as well as their walk with the Lord.
