From Kerry Barr O'Connor, Executive Director
In the United States, Women's History Month traces its beginnings back to the first International Women's Day in 1911, and 106 years later, events are being held all over the world to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year's theme is "Be Bold for Change" and we salute Maribel, Kaye, Marisha, Sylvia, Charleen, Evelyn, Antoinette, Latonya, Kokka, Delores, Tyese, Destinee, Kim, Joelle, Tameka, Candice, Anita, Raja, Leigh Anne and Patricia, who recently secured employment in an effort to achieve economic independence and strengthen their families. As UN Women, the United National Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, reports, "An increase in female labor force participation, results in faster economic growth, so this is very good news for the Greater Charlotte community!
We thank each corporate, community, foundation, and civic partner hosting an event throughout the Greater Charlotte area and around the world to celebrate Women's History, including the cast of Hamilton on Broadway. Several members of the cast donated their paychecks to Dress for Success. Check these out: International Women's Day - Hamilton Salaries and Twitter - Hamilton Musical
Please scroll through the newsletter and let us know how you would like to join this movement. And as always, please support our partners and thank them for their commitment to lifting women in our community.
Happy Spring!
Kerry

Swaggerer of the Month:
Meet "Mr. March"
Bill McMahon
Principal, Denver Defense
"One of the main focuses of Denver Defense is the safety and empowerment of women through training, firearms and situational awareness. This melds seamlessly with the stellar work that Dress for Success does. Utilizing the tools provided by both organizations, women become empowered and are better able to provide for and protect themselves and their families."

Power Partners
We love to see our great partners and supporters collaborate on events and initiatives and that's what happened recently with our friends from Talbots and the Palisades Women's Group. The Palisades group has been volunteering at Dress for Success Charlotte for more than 5 years. Last month, the members participated in a fashion show at Talbots in SouthPark. In addition to 10% of sales being donated to Dress for Success, the members held a raffle and raised enough to sponsor a woman for an entire year!

And, it gets better! Talbots has teamed up with O Mag to release an exclusive limited-edition capsule collection with 30% of the net proceeds benefiting Dress for Success. You can also make a monetary donation in store or on line through April 3 to lift more women in our community.
