NWSA WIND ENSEMBLE TAKES THE STAGE AT FMEA
The New World School of the Arts Wind Ensemble performed during the Florida Music Educator's Association (FMEA) President's Concert, under the direction of Brent Mounger. "The FMEA conference is the true embodiment of diversity in music education," said Mounger, NWSA faculty member. "The coming together of so many different people, not only from Florida, but also from around the world, with so many different ideas all for one purpose: Music Education."

Observing the conference theme of "Diversity in Music Education", the fifty-five member ensemble masterfully presented a movement from Concerto for Wind Orchestra Luminosity by Joseph Schwantner, followed by Canzonetta Op. 48, by Samuel Barber. Invited guest artists, the Boston Brass, performed Rick DeJonge's Prelude & Fantasy and the Wind Ensemble closed the program with Florent Schmitt's Dionysiaques Op. 62.

The NWSA Wind Ensemble is guided by the philosophy that seeks to expose students to the highest quality of music in the wind repertoire. Through rehearsal and performance of great literature, students are exposed to a wide range of compositional techniques, rehearsal processes and expressive possibilities that challenge students to develop their individual musicianship.

Like us on Facebook THEATER ALUMNI DUO WINS PROJECT GREENLIGHT CONTEST TO PRODUCE THEIR DREAM SERIES
When they took to the stage at New World School of the Arts as young actors in the NWSA College program to present their final monologues as a farewell to NWSA, Edson Jean and Joshua Jean-Baptiste could not have imagined they would soon be selected as the next Project Greenlight winners. An honor that brings with it $25,000 to produce their brainchild entitled #Josh, the duo's successful win of Project Greenlight Digital Series Contest was made possible through the community's extraordinary support along with their enthusiastic votes.

Joshua, who received his BFA degree from the NWSA college program in 2013, highlighted, "This entire #GetTheGreenlight process has been a roller coaster of emotions, or as our fellow Haitians would say...MEZAMI! We're appreciative that an organization like Project Greenlight is determined to get stories like ours out there. After receiving an unprecedented amount of support from our community, we are honored to share a story set in Miami that isn't coated in glitz or glamour."

"Winning the Project Greenlight challenge is fabulous news," said David Kwiat, theater faculty member at NWSA. "Both Joshua and Edson have had their 'eyes on the prize' since they were students at New World School of the Arts. Both have an intense focus and a desire to prosper as theater/film artists. Interestingly, both of their one-person shows, which, was their Senior Project at NWSA, rolled around in the issue of making a better world for themselves and the people they came in contact with. This achievement is an extension of that passion which has been evident as long as I have known both of them."

"We're grateful to be New World Grads, and owe a lot of our successes to the training we've received," Joshua humbly explained. "Working together we speak a certain "language" that coming from different schools wouldn't have allowed. We strive to make our professors proud, and thank them for excusing that one absence we had!"

Spearheaded by Edson and mostly written by his best friend and NWSA peer Joshua, #Josh is a homegrown original developed as a digital web series. The 16-episode series highlights the life of two young Haitian-Americans with very different backgrounds and polar opposite outlooks in life. The two young men, who come together after an unfortunate event, explore life and discover living through each other's experiences as they come of age in contemporary Miami. Slated for release in summer of 2016, the young actors explain that the original tone of the series has become a bit more serious and it has morphed since they first conceived the show. Although both actors could easily and brilliantly portray the two protagonists, they will be casting for the roles in the coming months.

Like us on Facebook PASSION, SKILL AND CREATIVE CHOREOGRAPHY IN "EMERGE" BFA DANCE CONCERT
As one of the most anticipated performance of the college, the New World School of the Arts College BFA Dance Concert will present Emerge, a program that showcases the passion, skill, and creativity of nine new choreographic voices. As the title suggests, this dynamic program will present a program of works, which embody the joys and struggles of emerging as a creative artist and performer. The BFA Dance Concert marks the most comprehensive and final project delivered by NWSA's dance graduates.

Mary Lisa Burns, dean of dance at NWSA highlights, "Taking inspiration from this pivotal point in their artistic lives, these nine choreographer/dancers have worked, with guidance from NWSA faculty member Lara Murphy and feedback from the full faculty of professional dancer/choreographers, to bring their kinetic imaginations and skills in a variety of styles of dance to the stage. From a powerful contemporary ballet en pointe to the infectious rhythms of tap dance, the evening presents dances evoking a bustling New York City sidewalk, the memory of shared family togetherness, and a duet of sensuously menacing danger. The gifts and aspirations of these young artists emerge before our eyes as the evening unfolds."
