FALL DANCE CELEBRATION
Featuring New World School of the Arts High School and College dancers, the Fall Dance Celebration offers a dynamic and varied evening of choreography that highlights ballet, modern and hip-hop styles.
Lara Murphy's evocative Nosotros is a romantic pas de deux set to the music of prolific Cuban composer and respected pianist Ernesto Lecuona. 1914, a modern piece by Darshan Bhuller, commemorates the centennial of World War I with a 15-minute abstract piece that exposes the isolation and desolation of war, while Robert Battle's Rush Hour energizes the stage with its powerful abstraction of modern life. Kehynde Hill's work entitled (B)ear (N)o (W)itness also explores hop-hop with an upbeat score of contemporary music and a solemn storyline. The program also features a driving contemporary work by guest choreographer Jose Garant, entitled Forced Entry, as well as two ballet works - an excerpt from the upcoming Thomas Armour Youth Ballet/NWSA production of The Nutcracker and Away, a moving contemporary piece by Gerard Ebitz.

A PIECE OF ME
NWSA is once again at the center of exhibiting institutions of Miami's internationally attended art fair week. Developed by Miami-based Wet Heat Project, A Piece of Me is the second edition of an exhibition that pairs visual arts students from the NWSA high school honors class with an acclaimed alumnus from their school, who this year will be Hernan Bas.
The NWSA students will produce site-specific installations in response to a significant artwork created by Bas. The source artwork for A Piece of Me is a signature Bas video in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, "All By Myself" (2004, single-channel video, courtesy of the artist and Frederic Snitzer Gallery). In keeping with the approach of art student challenges developed by the exhibition's producer Wet Heat Project, these young collaborators must employ a materially antithetical medium outside the comfort zone of their emerging practice. The new artworks' response medium will be paper-based, of any scale, mass, composition and circumstance. The student installations will be presented together with the original video artwork by their predecessor, Hernan Bas.
Participating students include: Khadine Caines, Andres Cazalis, John Chiaverini, Timothy Eutsay, Juan Garcia, Samantha Grenier, Maria Lopez, Bernadeta Majauskaite, Luz Orozco, Caroline Radell.
A Piece of Me is a Wet Heat Project (Bill Bilowit, Director) in association with New World School of the Arts, Visual Arts Program (Maggy Cuesta, Dean; Donald Lambert, Faculty Advisor). A Piece of Me is presented at CONTEXT Art Fair through the generous support of Nick Korniloff, Partner and Director Art Miami LLC | Executive Vice President CONTEXT Art Fair; Julian Navarro, Show Director CONTEXT Art Fair; Pamela Cohen, Director of Marketing, VIP Relations, Sponsors + Partners Art Miami LLC.
