Feng Shui Friday

Hey! It's Feng Shui Friday.  The desk has gone to its new home, my car is back in the garage, the bathroom is done!, the shredding is shredded, three huge bags picked up for charity, and my basement is lookin' really good--clutter cleared the feng shui way!

This week we have accomplished a lot toward clearing clutter, simplifying, downsizing, and getting organized.  As the long 'to do' list gets shorter, because I continue to check off items, two thoughts surface...

Feng Shui Tip of the Week

Keep the ball rolling.

After several months of making decisions about what to sell and move and donate and dump for the garage sale, and a bathroom and laundry room remodel, I feel compelled to come to a screeching halt. And yet, after a week in Alaska, I will be ready to pick up my list and start again.  I will want to keep the ball rolling, the energy moving forward, and creating space for new ideas, opportunities, fun, experiences, and perhaps a move.  Without movement, chi stagnates like a pool of water that has no outlet--a cesspool. Remember that chi likes to meander, not rush. Just keep the chi rolling, slowly, as you build momentum toward a project's completion or deadline, and then coast until it's time to pick up speed again.  Keep your list handy, keep it moving (projects to complete, projects completed), and keep moving forward.

Begin Again. I have just finished editing a portion of my good friend, Carol McAnally's book. Her collection of brief, profound, inspiring messages are motivating me to think, pause, soften, move, be, and love and honor myself.  With her permission, I am sharing my very favorite in her collection: Begin Again.  Especially if you are clutter clearing, listen to how her words relate specifically to our clearing clutter commitment. And then whether you are clutter clearing, meditating, exercising, dieting, writing, or practicing regular routines for personal growth, never give up, keep the ball rolling, begin again.

Begin Again

by Carol McAnally

"Like clockwork, a moment comes when the resolutions so carefully crafted and deeply committed to have either fallen by the wayside or become a much lesser version of the original intent. We tend to dream big only to fall short and give up. Does that mean we shouldn't dream? Does that mean we shouldn't set profound intentions to support our well-being? Does that mean we are incapable of doing what it takes to realize our fullest potential?

            I think not.

One thing I commit to again and again is the practice of daily movement and meditation. I tend to be very consistent for about three months. Inevitably, something comes up and my practice becomes more sporadic. Then it dwindles to almost nothing. I love moving and meditating every day. It feels good and sets me up to be clear, present, and engaged. So why in the world would I let that begin to slip away?

            Why, oh why, oh why?

Wow, what a big waste of time that inquiry is! It doesn't
matter why, it only matters that! Dissecting the intricacies of resistance is a pointless endeavor and only leads to a greater sense of loss and failure. Examining resistance is a waste of time. Resistance is --always has been and always will be. It is best to simply acknowledge it, soften toward it, and move on. Really, any time spent examining resistance gives it more oomph and vigor and it ends up being an insurmountable obstacle, rather than a blip on the scope of possibility and potential.
            What then?

Turn toward your heart's true desire and simply begin again. Just that. Begin again. Rather than putting any time or effort into feeling like a failure and feeling guilty about your imperfections, just begin again. Choose what serves you and dismiss what does not. Never decide that you are not worth the effort it takes to realize your dreams and your fullest potential. Begin again."

This week take a look at your 'to do' list.  Cross off what you've accomplished and add any projects (big remodel, cleaning out one box, taking one bag to charity, sewing a hem in your black trousers) that you want to complete. Review your daily routines, your desires, and your 'wish list'.  If your ball has stopped, give it a very gentle nudge to get it rolling again. Smile. Hug yourself. Begin again.
