Feng Shui Friday

April  25, 2014

On this Feng Shui Friday we have just experienced The Cardinal Cross. According to Sarah Varcas at Astro-Awakenings, "it is an opportunity for new beginnings, but in order for those beginnings to enable fully present lives, we must be increasingly free of the blocks, obstacles, suppressions, repressions, and 'issues' which bind us."  For me, that means clearing clutter the feng shui way.

Whether we decide to move from this house or not, the external changes in my house directly represent the internal changes I'm experiencing, wanting, inviting.  Join me in inviting change in your life as the planets align to help us.

NOTE: Last week some major cleaning was going on at Constant Contact, too. Their server was down for the first time in my association with them (12 years). It seems they had a major power malfunction and generators did not respond, so they spent many hours rebuilding the system, which meant no connection to the server. My apologies if you were unable to open and read last week's Feng Shui Friday. Here is the link to Spring Cleaning the Feng Shui Way.

Feng Shui Tip of the Week

I am fully embraced by the desire for change. I want something different. I'm not sure exactly what it is, so I'm creating a blank(er) canvas for the Universe to fill in. Remember the saying that insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results? My acupuncture therapist reminds me that unless I change the way I'm doing things--my business, routines, habits, my thinking, my feelings--I will continue to get the same results. I am ready and willing to be open to big changes, so I'm freeing as many obstacles as I can to create space for new opportunities, ideas, energy, and time. Here's what I'm doing to invite change.

Lighten up. Let it go. The Garage Sale is next weekend and I'm selling the corner desk unit I've worked at for 14 years. It's solid maple, no veneer anywhere, and weighs a ton.  It carries considerable 'feng shui as metaphor' symbolism for me. Now is the time to let it go and replace it with a small writing desk (I'm on the lookout for the perfect piece). And I think I'll move my piano here. This is a HUGE shift in the energy of my home and my Self.  I've cleaned it out and shredded or recycled four boxes of outdated business files, correspondence, and resources. And everything that was on my desk has been added to the garage sale box, found a home on the library shelves, or in one of two file cabinets: a 2-drawer for current papers and a 4-drawer archival cabinet in the basement.

Just in case. So many books I've kept just in case I want to read them. And CDs just in case something happens to my iPod. And cassette tapes just in case of what? In the past two weeks I've filled six boxes with books, CDs, and cassette tapes. I cleared out enough drawers and book shelves to empty the huge corner unit, which is also for sale. In the process of inviting change through simplifying, I've decided there's no room for 'just in case'.  For me, 'just in case' is a mindset that says I'm not safe. It shouts volumes of 'lack mentality'. It encourages me to save stuff I do not love, use or need out of fear.  And guess what? I went into my iTunes, which I haven't used in probably 18 months, to make sure all my CDs were in there before I put them out for the garage sale, and I have $21.33 in my account. So I purchased tunes from the cassette tapes I happily let go plus Pharrel Williams' "Happy" song (which I LOVE!!).  I opened the space and received a reward. That's results, the feng shui way!

Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. The inside of this house looks like a tornado hit it. Besides clearing out the library units, my desk, and my business life, we are having our main bathroom and laundry room remodeled: out with the linoleum and in with stone tile floors and shower walls, new vanity and counter top, paint, and finishing touches. Our contractor has all his tools in the bedroom next to the bathroom. Our washer and dryer are in the guest bedroom. And you can imagine what my living room/office looks like with stuff for the garage sale in piles, boxes, recycle bins, shredding cartons, dust everywhere. What's the point of cleaning until this is all done?  When change presents itself--whether it's invited or not--the road can be a little bumpy before we arrive at smooth pavement. Don't get discouraged. Keep moving forward, one step at a time, and setting your intentions for all the positive change you envision. Visualize exactly what you want to see at the end of the road.

This week take a look at any changes you'd like to invite. Then it's up to you to create the space, shift the energy, let it go, and make room for change.  Remind yourself that there's nothing to fear and like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz who said, "there's no place like home", repeat often and with confidence, "it's safe to let go--it's safe to let go".  Change is in the air. Out with the old and in with the new.

The owners, Suzie and Camille, have created a a high-end shopping experience in pre-owned furniture and accessories at Design Repeats. This is no second-hand store. They have artfully showcased entire rooms--color coordinated, complete, and appealing. You will feel as if you've stepped into an Ethan Allen or Arhaus show room.

I saw this store when I was looking for ceramic tile for our remodel. So I went back to check it out and ask if they might be interested in my desk unit (if it didn't sell at The Garage Sale).
Great energy here!
