Feng Shui Friday

January 3, 2014

It's the New Year Feng Shui Friday.  What are you going to do with it?  From all the postings I've seen, it looks like everyone is READY for 2014.  My husband said, "glad to get rid of unlucky 13".  Hmmmm.  Perhaps many of you are ready for new luck in 14, too.   It appears to be the year of change.

I've been wondering where to go with Feng Shui Fridays this New Year.  Several people expressed interest and the opportunity to ask a question I can answer for them: clutter, feng shui, clearing clutter the feng shui way, anything on your mind.   Until I hear from you, let's start the New Year with how to set the stage for 2014 the feng shui way.

I don't have to do it the way I did it yesterday.

Feng Shui Tip of the Week

Getting  Started.   We are creatures of habit.  When January 1 rolls around our minds go to resolutions and goals and wishes, starting over, starting fresh, clutter clearing, letting go of the old and ringing in the new, a new year filled with possibilities.  If you haven't done it yet, this weekend do three things. First, take some time to write down your goals and wishes for the New Year (check out Write It Down, Make It Happen, link in right side bar). Next, make a list of the things that you are ready to let go of and no longer serve you. Then burn or shred the list.  Third, create some sacred space.  Start with your desk or a room or the entry.  Let go of at least 9 items that you no longer love, use or need in this area.  Then clear and shift the energy by burning sage or incense, ringing bells, or placing a glass bowl filled with sea salt and fresh water on the surface--desk or countertop--or floor (leave it 24 hours to collect any leftover energy you no longer love, use or need, and then flush down toilet).

A New Moon.  According to a post from Denise Linn,

"It's the New Moon and this hasn't happened on January 1st for 19 years. New moons are fabulous times for a fresh start. This particular New Moon is in Capricorn, which is great energy for letting go of the things that don't serve you and for opening the door for renewal and rebirth.  Additionally, because of the other astrological configurations, there has rarely been a more powerful time to begin to clear out stuck energy and congested situations in life.  If you are ready to cut some ties from the past, release negative patterns or habits, initiate new projects, or step into a new beginning, take time to tomorrow to plant some seeds for the future.  (Some ideas: Pray, Meditate, Create a Visison Seed Collage, Start a New program, etc.)  Don't let this opportunity fall by the wayside. Whatever you initiate tomorrow will be dramatically magnified in the months ahead!  2014 Bring It On!"

It's not too late.  Even though Denise suggests planting your seeds on January 1, I believe you can still achieve your goals if you follow through this weekend with strong intentions. (If you are strongly tied to the New Year, you can do this on January 31, the Lunar/Chinese New Year.) Pick a specific day and then on that day start the morning with strong intentions for your New Year.  Start by planting a seed for each project, habit or new beginning you want to cultivate in 2014.  I want to move more (can't use the E word because it just feels yucky to me) so I went outside and walked for 20 minutes.  I want to learn Sign Language and Swedish, so I got out my dictionaries for those languages and put them on my desk.  I want to meditate more regularly, so I listened to a beautiful guided meditation.  I want to cook and eat healthy so I made no-sugar bran muffins (see recipe in side bar).  And I want to get my family's genealogy completed in photo books so I cleared off my hobby table to make room for sorting and scanning.  Then I finished the day by watching my two favorite movies (that I watch every year) Steel Magnolias (love, friendship and strength) and Pollyanna (being glad).

This week set the stage for 2014 by clearing space, sowing seeds, and practicing the new habits on your lists (action=results and where intention goes, energy flows). And be sure to set out something that symbolizes who you are and where you're going.  Happy New Year!

Until Next Week

The Philosopher's Recipe for
Bran Muffins

Set oven at 425 degrees. Grease a 6-hole muffin tin.  Mix together dry:
one cup of ran
one-half cup of whole-wheat flour
one-half cup of ONE of the following:
whole-barley flour
whole-rye flour
whole-buckwheat flour
whole-wheat flour
(I use amaranth flour)
one-half teaspoon baking soda, one-half teaspoon baking powder, pinch of salt.  Push mix to one side of the bowl and into the space provided break
one egg, add
two tablespoons of animal or vegetable oil (e.g. butter, lard, safflower or corn oil).  Beat with a fork until egg yoke and white are mixed.  Add
one cup or yogurt or buttermilk or sour milk or sweet milk to mix.
Stir with wooden spoon only enough to mix the ingredients together once so that everything is damp. Spoon into muffin tin.  Bake 20-24 minutes.
These muffins contain about 150 calories each. If you eat two of them a day, you will get enough bran to fill normal roughage requirements. The way to make them sweet, if you want, is to add raisins or blueberries or any kind of dried or fresh fruit. A mashed banana makes the muffins taste and smell delicious. You can add sunflower seeds or nuts. Better use an 8-hole  tin if you add much fruit.
