Feng Shui Friday

November 8, 2013

Happy Feng Shui Friday!  We're in the full swing of autumn, the feng shui way.  Days are getting shorter, the weather is cooler, we are headed indoors, and Mother Nature is changing her colors.  These are the Earth and Metal months: grounding, centering, gathering energy, and moving inward.  What better time to spend in introspection and getting in touch with your Spirit.  Check out the links to spiritual articles in the right sidebar: Tips, Resources and Ideas

Note:  Add earth and metal elements to your décor: a bowl of nuts in their shells, a porcelain pumpkin, gourds, a metal tray to hold your centerpiece, metallic chargers under your dinner plates, a family photo in a new metallic frame, a terra cotta or earthen candle holder or platter.

Feng Shui Tip of the Week

Because I'm a Scorpio.  When I first started professionally practicing feng shui 12 years ago, people looked at me like I had three heads. They didn't get it.  It never seemed so 'out there' to me because I'm a Scorpio.  We are investigators.  We love to dig deep, to explore, and ask why.  We look for ways to bring light to an inner darkness and find things that aren't working and bring them to the surface.  When I was a little girl, my grandmother would tell me these wonderful 'angel' stories -- how prayers were answered or about someone who had died and returned as an angel to thank the people left behind for taking care of them.  I was fascinated by this other spiritual world.  I believed her without question (my first taste of faith) and was always open to what seemed 'unexplainable'.  So feng shui was never a stretch for me.

The Spirit in Feng Shui. When I decided to go to feng shui school, I chose the Interior Alignment school over the others because of the focus on spirituality that Denise Linn brought to our training.  I loved that every day she took us on guided meditation journeys and taught us the method of soul coaching -- a way of questioning ourselves and our clients -- to more deeply connect and hear our higher selves (very Scorpio, don't you think?).  She encouraged listening and following our intuition through quiet contemplation, meditation, or prayer. We learned the important feng shui principles of chi through balance and harmony by aligning our internal spiritual goals and desires with our external physical environment.  And when she said, "you were called to be here; thank you for listening" I knew she had really called me on her very own spiritual cell phone.  Throughout the days and weeks of the course, she encouraged us to align ourselves -- body, heart, mind and spirit -- so we could hear and feel and sense our whole selves.

Magic or results.  Last week I said, "Spirit is that realm of higher consciousness, personal purpose, and life's meaning for each of us individually.   It is that place beyond the every-day, beyond the rational, and beyond explanation.  Spirit is a place of faith."  A woman at one of my recent presentations said she had a feng shui practitioner come to her home and what she did with the placement of her furniture and décor was a miracle.  A room they never enjoyed before suddenly became their favorite hang out.  Here's why I think feng shui feels like 'magic' or a miracle.  Because it is spiritual.  Once we are able to align what our soul wants (internally) with what's going on in our every day lives (our environment), what happens seems like a miracle or magic.  I call it RESULTS.  Our soul understands and says "of course, why are you surprised?" but our concrete mind says, "Wow! That was a miracle. That was magic!" or "What a coincidence!"  Feng shui is outside a normal realm of understanding, but it works.  Everything is connected.  A perfect example is how our plants begin to die when we are not well for an extended length of time--physically, spiritually, mentally, or emotionally.  We are obviously having difficulty taking care of ourselves much less taking care of our plants, and look what happens: what's going on inside impacts what's going on outside.

This week take a look at how your environment impacts you spiritually or how your spirit impacts your environment.  Does the clutter keep you disorganized and immersed so you aren't writing or traveling or living your purpose?  Is your spiritual frustration or depression isolating you in an unfulfilling job or away from friends and family?  Maybe your joyful spirit is showing up in your artwork, your volunteer participation, and your blissful attitude.  Check in with your spirit this week and make an environmental change that matches your soul.

Until Next Week
