Greetings!
It's the last Feng Shui Friday in August. We're headed into what is typically the final hooray for summer - Labor Day Weekend. And yet the weather continues to remind us it's still summer (officially until the fall equinox September 22). So go out there and enjoy the long holiday weekend and be safe.
Before, during, or after your weekend holiday, consider these closing thoughts on mental clutter. Next month I'll offer some tips and thoughts on emotional clutter - clutter of the heart - and suggestions on how to continue to de-clutter from the inside out, the feng shui way.

Feng Shui Tip of the Week
|
Shift in perception. Just like moving furniture to shift energy and get the chi flowing in your living space, a shift in perception can send our mental chi in a more positive direction too. For some time now I have struggled with my weight. I know my weight issue is an 'inside job'. I'm finding I need to stop the mental clutter and shift my perception of who I think I am. After confiding in a smart and loving friend, she suggested I shift my perception by repeating regularly "I love myself no matter what." I've been practicing daily (dozens of times) and an interesting thing happened this weekend.
My husband and I went to lunch at the Broadmoor with another couple to celebrate our anniversaries which are a day apart. I had gone to the Dress Barn (great name, huh?) to find something appropriate to wear (it's the only place I can find 'fat' clothes that are somewhat attractive) since I can't fit into a thing and bought some white pants and a really pretty white lace sleeveless top. Even though I felt large in white I kept telling myself in the dressing room and at the Broadmoor "I love myself no matter what". While we were walking around in the gift shops a lady walked up to me (total stranger) and told me my top was lovely. I smiled and told her thank you and then she said "and you have such a nice tan to go with it, and your hair, and your eyes." I kept telling her thank you and thanked her for the kind compliments and she said, "maybe we know it, but we just don't hear it often enough". Wow. I was so flattered. I immediately emailed my friend to tell her thank you for her advice to shift my perception.
Potential for anything. Then I was reminded of a online presentation by one of my favorite authors, Karen Rauch Carter (Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life), and I loved what she said about potential. She encouraged listeners to consider a shift in their mind set from 'something' or 'nothing' - not void or lack - to 3D items to actually "see" potential. For example, she suggested holding a remote in your hand and then taking the remote away. Can you see the space left there? Can you see the potential for something new? "Imagine the space," she continued, "now giving huge volumes of potential." It's not something (the remote) and then nothing (an empty hand). Instead of looking at what's NOT there - lack or void - look at the huge amount of potential that can take up the same space. Our thoughts, like a remote, take up space. If we can begin to set aside the thoughts that are not helpful, positive, meaningful, supportive, and kind, we create in their absence "huge volumes of potential".
Results. (Story from above continued.) After the nice compliments from the lady in the gift shop, during lunch the waitress dropped a bowl of ketchup, off her tray, into my lap and onto my new white pants. She was mortified. I was speechless. Her quick thinking by offering a huge glass of club soda cleaned off enough of the ketchup that I could walk around the rest of the afternoon without huge red blobs all down my pant leg. And unbelievably I got it all out when I got home. Remarkably, I was able to let it go and assure the embarrassed waitress it was no big deal, just a pair of pants. I believe the energy from the compliment got paid forward and when I shifted my perception I got positive results -- positive chi. She repeatedly said, "thanks for being so understanding." Less mental junk, judgment, and negativity created potential for positive results.
This week look for the potential in a mind uncluttered by negativity, over thinking, too many things in too small a space, shoulds, obligations, and postponed decisions. Let go of the mental junk, shift your perception, and create space for results and the potential in your life, your business, your relationships, and your dreams.
