Feng Shui First Fridays

April 5, 2013

Greetings!

Spring has sprung on this Feng Shui First Friday.  My tulips' green leaves are peeking out and trees will be budding next. Spring is always a wonderful time in feng shui because it's an opportunity to throw open the windows and truly invite in Mrs. Chi.  The days are longer and warmer and the Wood element encourages the energy of new beginnings, growth, vitality, and activity.

This month is perfect for focusing on making room for new growth and new beginnings.  Get moving! It's spring--the feng shui way!

Feng Shui Tip of the Week

We've made it through another winter and hibernation is over.  It's time to stretch and wake up to another spring filled with the promise of change and action.  Try these tips on ways to make the most of spring in all areas--home, office, and your life.

HOME. Spring cleaning was mandatory when coal was the primary heating source.  Over the winter months, with windows and doors closed to the cold weather, soot from the fireplaces and coal burning stoves built up on every surface. When spring arrived, doors and windows were thrown open, rugs were taken out for their annual beating (ha!), windows and walls, linens and floors were scrubbed, cleaned and refreshed. What a wonderful way to welcome the season.  As you shift the energy by cleaning and moving furniture, dusting and adding spring decor and colors,  set your intentions for changes you want over the next several months. How about a fresh outlook on relationships, growth in business opportunities, personal vitality, more fun activities with family/friends/partner, new beginnings in [you fill in the blank].  Vacuum under your bed, sweep off the front porch, shake the welcome mat, walk through a floral shop and take deep breaths of that fresh sweet smell (buy some flowers if you'd like). And then check out these additional feng shui spring cleaning tips.

OFFICE.  There's nothing better for welcoming new business, expansion, and activity like cleaning out the files, computer emails, and the top of your desk.  Shake off the sleepy winter and make some decisions!  Recycle old manuals, files, and papers that are outdated. Delete and answer emails that have been piling up (even if you have to say "not right now, thank you"). Completely clear off your desk, run a damp rag over it, file things that require filing, consider replacing only those items on your desk that you need, use, or love.  Then add a daily visual reminder of your spring intentions: postcard or map for a much-needed vacation, small clock to encourage more organized time and energy, something heart-shaped to hold the energy of compassion and patience--with yourself and others.

LIFE.  Because our outside environment is a direct reflection of what's going on for us inside, take some time this month to begin creating an environment that supports who you are and where you're going.  Feel overwhelmed? Take care of some of those long-needed repairs, make a decision, let go of some stuff. Feel stuck? Move some furniture, sell or recycle or donate items that have too much history and have outlived their usefulness, so you can move forward.  Want change?  Change the towels in the downstairs bathroom with those from another bathroom (or buy new if you want).  Try a new restaurant.  Change handbags.  Change your hairstyle or hair color.   Get creative.  Be honest.  Spend time with someone you trust and ask for ideas on how you can create an environment that will move you actively toward where you're going.

Until next month

Wishing you Simplified Interiors

SUCCESS STORIES
A True Story about Spring Cleaning
the Feng Shui Way!

Kathie.  On Friday night, I started using your book.  I started with my travel drawer and then went to both bathroom drawers and cupboards...tossed tons of stuff and now have room to tuck away things on the counter, so it looks so much less cluttered.

The next day, I had a carpet cleaning scheduled and had to move everything off the floor. I threw out a lot.  My carpets were cleaned and lifted me up in such a big way. I had a vision board event this afternoon and put my nicer items up for people to take if they wanted and they took it all!  I also replaced my ironing board, which I bought in 1979 and was so awful.  I also had crystal candlesticks from the 1980s that I didn't like when I got them as a gift.   I hung a piece of new art in the entry.

Then, I did some returns for Christmas and found bright colored items and bracelets and brought fun colored, bold and fun things back in!  I found my word - BOLD!  This is such a practical magic.  As I put my focus in each area, the answers come.  My life feels so much happier and I have so much more pride for my place.  I can't wait for next weekend [Feng Shui Friday] and may not.

I have cleared so much space for happiness and the ability to be more focused at work and at home in the coming weeks.  It was life changing and that is not an exaggeration.

So sincerely,

Joanne
