Greetings!
I'm still on a clutter clearing roll on this Feng Shui First Friday. The past few weeks I've tackled the stuff under the bathroom sinks, the medicine closet, and tax prep. And as I considered what I wanted to share with you this week I thought about invisible clutter-- time, energy, and spaces--thereby affecting good feng shui.
Take a look at how these invisible or intangibles, stuff you may not actually be able to see or hold, affect your life, your home, your office, your peace of mind. And keep clearing clutter the feng shui way.

Feng Shui Tip of the Week
| |
Time. Even though you can't see, touch or hear time, time can feel really cluttered when you do too much and don't seem to have enough of it. Then your chi gets stuck (overwhelmed) or rushing (stressed) and that's not good feng shui. Sometimes it feels hard to say no to those who ask for our help so we succumb and take on one more project or task and clutter our time. Over the past several months I've been asked to volunteer on several different committees. All good causes but one can only do so much. What I've discovered that's made it easier to 'Just Say No' is suggesting other excellent people the asker might consider for these committees. I trust this assists the asker's time too and makes all our chi flow better.
Energy. Another 'invisible' aspect of our lives is energy - especially when it's truly invisible and we can't seem to find it anywhere. The more energy it takes to organize, clean, find, display, and manage our stuff, the less energy we have to spend on the things we enjoy and that matter. I have two toiletry travel bags I take on trips (one for wet stuff like shampoo and one for dry stuff like makeup and comb). The messes under my bathroom sink required so much energy to dig through to even find these travel bags, I was loosing my mind. All the extra lotions were donated, half-full bottles were combined, and a bunch of stuff just went to the trash. Open the doors now and voila there are my two travel bags ready to throw in the suitcase. No wasted energy. No wasted chi. Pantries, coat closets, book shelves, file cabinets, email boxes can all clutter your energy. Clean 'em out! Make your goal to find anything and everything in 30 seconds or less. Let go of anything you do not love, use or need and increase your energy.
Space. In dozens of different ways for the past 11 years I've been helping clients and students clear clutter the feng shui way. Making space is one of my main principles. Again, while we can't really 'see' space it can become a big black hole. Anything we don't know what to do with goes in the junk drawer, the bottom of the closet, a desk drawer, a file folder, a pile. When you make space - wide open, clear space - you make room for the stuff you WANT in your life - TIME and ENERGY - opportunities, relationships, money, clients, experiences. Take a look at Nina's Success Story (right side bar). She cleared out the old, made space for the new, and the new appeared, because now there was space for it to happen. Open some space in your life - lots of space for chi - and watch for results.
Over the next month consider how your time, energy and space might be cluttered and the ways it impacts your life. Look at ways you can 'just say no', how you can increase your energy by letting go of things you don't love, use, or need and what you would rather fill your space with other than stuff. And send me your success stories.
Until next month
Wishing you Simplified Interiors

"Thank you Kathie, I learned so much from your feng shui talk last week [Wine Women and Wellness event]. This morning I cleaned out my filing cabinet and threw away OMG a ton of stuff I hand't looked at in forever. It was like holding onto the past. Anyway, I dedicated an entire drawer for consultants--existing consultants and for new consultants that would like to join me in my business. Two minutes later, I received a call from a gal that would like to become a wine consultant. Thank you so much for the great tips."

My Note: Five days later when I saw Nina at DTC-CBW I told her I was happy feng shui worked for her with the call from a new consultant and she said, "TWO, two calls that same day." She reports that Mrs. Chi is visiting on a regular basis.
That's good feng shui!
