Physical Deterrents
Still the Best Way to Block Birds

Birds are naturally inclined to roost and nest in dark places, away from human access and disruption. Birds that are roosting and nesting become a nuisance around a property, creating noise and a mess wherever they choose to live.

Roosting and nesting occur habitually, and often in the same area each year if the area hasn't been blocked off.  Bird control is imperative and can occasionally be a costly investment.  Physical deterrents are the most effective way to control the nuisance created by pest birds nesting, and also eliminates any health-related issues caused by their droppings.

By creating a physical bird barrier to the location birds are trying to access, deterrents such as netting become a proactive solution for bird control. The key to effective bird control is prevention. By creating an enclosure, birds are excluded from the area and will no longer be able to nest or roost.

Heavy Duty Bird Netting
Bird Net install

Help control the unwanted mess that pest birds create by utilizing bird netting. Bird Netting is used as a physical bird barrier to prevent birds from landing, roosting or nesting in unwanted areas. Bird Netting is the most effective form of bird control because it excludes them from the area altogether.

Bird Netting is made from a U.V. stabilized knotted mesh and is available in various stock sizes and custom cuts to control several sizes of pest birds. Netting is a humane and effective method of deterring birds because it prevents the birds from accessing the desired area altogether. Ideal for a wide range of commercial uses including canopies, hangars, warehouses, and garden centers, bird netting is easily installed using tailored hardware, also available from Bird-B-Gone

Tips From the Experts

This month's tip comes from Rich Martin, Bird Control Engineer...

When proposing a bird net installation, there are many things to consider. During the "Site Evaluation" process, it is important to record what type of building material you will be attaching your cable and brackets to. The building material will determine what intermediate and corner brackets will need to be installed. Based on where the net will be placed, make sure if the net is below any light fixtures or water/gas shut off valves, and that zippers are installed for easy access. When choosing the mesh size of your net, determine what bird species that you want to exclude from the area.

Remember:

2" mesh - Pigeons and larger

1-1/8" mesh - Starlings, Pigeons

3/4" mesh - All Birds

Regardless of the bird species, you may want to propose using 3/4" mesh net, to ensure that no birds will gain access the enclosed area.
