Dear Readers,

As we approach Discovery Channel's SHARK WEEK rumors are flying around Hollywood about a MEG MOVIE. We'll know soon. Meanwhile, there's been a change in my publication schedule. SHARKMAN (see the book trailer below) debuts Oct. 7th while VOSTOK has been pushed back until Feb 7th to coincide with the launch of a new reader's website that will potentially change the industry. .. and VOSTOK was chosen to lead the parade.

On a personal note, my parkinson's disease has progressed, forcing me to turn to meds. It's a little scary, but I'm hoping for good things.

Please spread the SHARKMAN trailer around your social media pages, it means a lot to me.

With that, here's your update.

Living Tips: Dealing with a disease
As we go through life, we learn that we have the right to be angry if something happens we do not like. We also have the right to be frustrated, resentful, worrisome, fearful, stressful, anxious, unforgiving, critical, and self-critical. Today, I ask you to give up these old rights.

Recipe of the Month: Best Brownies
Ingredients

Ingredients:

4 (1-oz.) unsweetened chocolate baking squares
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line bottom and sides of an 8-inch pan with aluminum foil, allowing 2 to 3 inches to extend over sides; lightly grease foil.

2. Microwave chocolate squares and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl at HIGH 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or until melted and smooth, stirring at 30-second intervals. Whisk in granulated and brown sugars. Add eggs, 1 at a time, whisking just until blended after each addition. Whisk in flour, vanilla, and salt.

3. Pour mixture into prepared pan.

4. Bake at 350° for 40 to 44 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely on a wire rack (about 1 hour). Lift brownies from pan, using foil sides as handles. Gently remove foil, and cut brownies into 16 squares.

Prepare the brownie batter as directed.

OPTIONS.

Caramel-Macchiato Brownies: Coffee fiends: Go with 1 Tbsp. espresso powder. Be advised-these are sticky! Avoid them if you wear braces. Stir 1 cup miniature marshmallows, 1/2 cup caramel bits*, and 1 1/2 tsp. to 1 Tbsp. instant espresso into batter. Increase bake time to 44 to 46 minutes.*12 caramels, quartered, may be substituted. Note: Be sure to insert wooden pick into brownie, not marshmallow, when testing for doneness. (Marshmallows will rise to the top when baking.) We tested with Kraft Caramel Bits.

White Chocolate-Blueberry Brownies: A taste of chocolate-covered blueberries gave our Food staff this idea. Stir 1 (3.5-oz.) package dried blueberries and 1 (4-oz.) white chocolate bar, coarsely chopped into batter. Increase bake time to 44 to 46 minutes .Note: We tested with Sunsweet Dried Blueberries and Ghirardelli White Chocolate Baking Bar.

Toasted Coconut-Cashew Brownies: This spicy, nutty brownie got our top rating. Spread 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut into a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 8 minutes or until lightly toasted, stirring every 2 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes. Stir toasted coconut; 1/2 cup cashews, chopped; and 2 Tbsp. finely chopped crystallized ginger into batter. Increase bake time to 44 to 46 minutes.
