Dear Readers:

In about 30 days my twelfth novel, THE OMEGA PROJECT will start appearing in bookstores - and in your mail box if you preordered the book from Amazon. Here's what you should know: The thriller took me almost 2 years to write and is definitely my most creative novel to date.  Imagine CASTAWAY, only 12 million years in the future. . .or is it? You won't know the truth until the last page.

Here's a review from Publisher's Weekly:

On the brink of a disaster that could end all human life on Earth, tech genius Robert Eisenbraun joins a team of scientists in Antarctica on a mission to Jupiter's moon Europa to mine a rare ore that would provide for Earth's long-term energy needs. But as he and the rest of the team train under the ice shelf in preparation for the long journey, trouble erupts, and before they embark Eisenbraun is the odd man out, put into cold sleep against his will....

When Robert wakes, he finds the ship deserted and not functional. He escapes to the surface of an Earth terribly changed. The plan has gone horribly wrong, but as he adapts to a hostile environment, he realizes that there is still a way to accomplish what his mission had set out to achieve. But he also discovers that he faces a new adversary of the most unlikely sort. For now, his own survival and that of the woman whose love has sustained him in his darkest hours depend on the defeat of a technological colossus partly of his own making. Confronting a foe that knows him almost as well as he knows himself, he faces the prospect of depending on resources that he has reason to believe will be available on one particular night of a full moon, a night foretold by a mysterious unseen ally to be a pivotal moment for the fate of the earth. The game has changed, and Earth's future depends on him and him alone. The Omega Project is yet another edge-of-your-seat thriller by bestselling author, Steve Alten, leaving readers looking for more.

Stressed out? I have the perfect remedy!
Have you read my new eBook romantic comedy novel, DOG TRAINING THE AMERICAN MALE? I wrote it under the pseudonym L. A. KNIGHT.  This laugh-out-loud story is about a radio host of a women's talk show who uses dog training techniques to domesticate her live-in boyfriend, empower her listeners, and raise ratings. There are three big reasons you'll want to invest $2.99 to download this eBook novel (if you don't have an eReader you can read it on your computer).

REASON 1: The book is guaranteed to make you laugh.
REASON 2: A portion of the proceeds will go to ZapCancer.org to support the first human trials on what appears to be a cure for solid tumor cancers!
REASON 3: There is a bonus in the back of the eBook -- the first two chapters of LOCH 2: VOSTOK! Read the book and post a review on Amazon, then e-mail me at Meg82159@aol.com and I will send you two more chapters!

WARNING: The novel is PG-17. So if you are a young MEG fan DON'T READ IT. You can buy it, just don't read it. It's available on Amazon as well as Nook, Kobo, and Smashwords.

Living Tips: 10 Treatments for Mosquito Bites
Few things are more annoying than the itching and scratching that accompanies a fat, juicy mosquito bite. Here are some great natural remedies for treating mosquito bites when we do get bit.

1. Vinegar - When you first notice the itchy bite, try applying a small amount of vinegar directly to the bump. If you have many bites, you may want to take a very hot bath in a tub filled with water and 2 1/2 cups of vinegar. I would personally recommend using organic apple cider vinegar.

2. Aloe - is another excellent remedy for mosquito bites, as well as many other conditions. Not only will it help ease the itching and swelling from the bit, but it will also aid in healing the wound. You can use fresh gel directly from an aloe plant or aloe juice.

3. A Dry Bar of Soap - Another remedy for mosquito bits is to rub a bar of dry soap directly on the bite. This will help provide temporary relief to the itching.

4. Baking Soda & Water - Another simple remedy for mosquito bites is to make a thick paste of baking soda and water. Then apply this paste generously to the affected area. You should feel the swelling and itching subside shortly afterwards.

5. Onion - Other than making you produce tears, a fresh slice of onion can also help take the sting out of a bite. Simply place a fresh slice on the affected area for several minutes until the itching subsides. Be sure to wash the area thoroughly afterwards.

6. Toothpaste - For quick relief from mosquito bites, try applying a small amount of all-natural peppermint or neem-based toothpaste. Allow the paste to dry and leave for as long as desired.

7. Raw Honey - Simply take a small amount of honey and apply directly to the bite. Honey also has anti-microbial properties that can help prevent infection.

8. Lime and/or Lemons - Apply a small amount of lime juice directly to the bites. This also helps in keeping the wound from becoming infected from the grit and grime of fingernails.

9. Essential oils - There are many essential oil that can help provide temporary relief for mosquito bites. My favorites are tea tree, rosemary, neem, lavender, witch hazel and cedar oil. Take a small amount and dilute it with water, then apply directly to the bite.

10. Salt Paste - ake finely ground salt and mix with a small amount of water until you have a thick paste. Apply this salt paste directly to bite.
Joke of the Month - Preparing for Prison

A man was sentenced to 10 years in Federal prison and was extremely worried. In an attempt to help ease his mind his best-friend introduced him to a man who was just released from hard time.

"Prison's really not that bad. Take Mondays... you're going to love Mondays! On Mondays they serve an all-you-can-eat buffet. And you're going to love Tuesdays... it's movie night, complete with popcorn. Wednesdays you'll love - it's guest day; we get top authors and artists visiting. You'll love Wednesdays. Now, do you happen to be gay? No? Then you're probably NOT going to love Thursdays."

Recipe of the Month: JULY 4 BARBEQUE RIBS

INGREDIENTS:

2 1/2 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
8 pounds baby back pork ribs (8 racks) or St. Louis-style spareribs (4 racks)
Low-salt chicken broth (optional)
1 1/2 cups store-bought or homemade barbecue sauce.

Preparation - Preheat oven to 350. Combine first 5 ingredients in a small bowl. Place each rack of ribs on a double layer of foil; sprinkle rub all over ribs. Wrap racks individually and divide between 2 baking sheets. Bake ribs until very tender but not falling apart, about 2 hours for baby backs and 3 hours for spareribs. Carefully unwrap ribs; pour any juices from foil into a 4-cup heatproof measuring cup; reserve juices. Let ribs cool completely. DO AHEAD: Ribs can be baked up to 3 days ahead (the flavor will be more developed, and the cold ribs will hold together better on the grill as they heat through). Cover and chill juices. Rewrap ribs in foil and chill. Build a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill, or heat a gas grill to high. Add broth or water to rib juices, if needed, to measure 1 1/2 cups. Whisk in barbecue sauce to blend. Grill ribs, basting with barbecue sauce mixture and turning frequently, until lacquered and charred in places and heated through, 7-10 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board; cut between ribs to separate. Transfer to a platter and serve with additional barbecue sauce.
