As we celebrate our anniversary, we want our church property and buildings to look their best.  If you belong to a Sunday School class or small group, please take a good look at your assigned room.  Our church doesn't have a full-time custodian or maintenance person.  Hence, we are asking you to make your room attractive and appealing!  You might hang new curtains, put up posters, clean or paint walls that have been banged up from moving furniture.  If you plan to do anything substantial, such as mounting a whiteboard or installing a tv, please check with Ken White in the church office first.

The Fellowship Hall has been painted and a small task force is being assembled to work on our Children's Room (116).

If you are looking for a way to help out, contact Ken White ([email protected]) or Ruth Bolton ([email protected]).

For the year of 2014, our visitor numbers were:

Total Visitors - 297
  • 75 attended with family members several times during the year
  • 63 Became regular attenders
  •   4 became members
  • The final 155: Several came to take part in our music program, several were visiting pastors or conference members, several became Winter Visitors, and several came because of our Day Care program, Scout program, G3 program, VBS program, and several came just looking for a new church.

On Feb. 1st @ 12:45 there will be an informational meeting for those who are

interested in leading a small home group for our Lenten Season.

We will be following Mike Slaughter's "RENEGADE GOSPEL: The Rebel Jesus"for this 6 week study as we re-examine our response toJesus' invitation,

"Come and follow me."

Small home groups will begin on Feb. 19th so give this some prayerful thought.

An offering will be taken to help support the retirement of our deaconesses.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. Ash Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality.  The service helps us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
During our Ash Wednesday services, the minister will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers.  The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship.  Historically, ashes signified purification and sorrow for sins. It is traditional to save the palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday service to burn to produce ashes for this service. The ash is mixed with an anointing oil and the sign of the cross is marked on the forehead as an outward sign of our sorrow and repentance for sins.

A small task force has been assembled to look into improvements to the technology in our Sanctuary.  The goal is to identify an integrated solution that meets our worship needs.   Currently, our new screens and projectors don't perform well due to aging infrastructure elsewhere in the Sanctuary. When the task force has completed its work, it will bring a proposal to the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee.
Task force members are:  Tracy Winsor (Chair of Worship Committee), Katie Brugal (Praise Team & Choir Director), Jamie Wiggins (Media Specialist), Michael Brugal (Trustee and Finance Committee member), Rob Mobley (SPRC), Rafi Rivera (Chair, Missions) and Ken White (Business Manager).
120 Anniversary Celebrations Kick Off March 22nd

An enthusiastic group of church members showed up for our brainstorming session.  Together, they created a plan for a year of celebrations to mark our 120th anniversary.  We will kick off with special worship services on Sunday March 22nd, with the theme "Return to the Arbor."  In addition, different teams are developing special events and "memory moments" to take place throughout our anniversary year.  You can look forward to a HUGE church picnic full of activities that all generations will enjoy! These different events will honor our legacy and look to the next 120 years of faithful service to the Lord.

A heads up:  mark your calendars for Sunday November 1 (All Saints Day) - when another special service is planned.  Both services are great opportunities to invite guests (including out of town guests) to our church.
