Camp Spark Enters Year 3

Over the next two weeks, our church will be offering a summer reading program for middle school students, called Camp Spark. Groups of two to three students read a book with an adult mentor from FUMC. There are also a variety of fun and healthy activities in Fellowship Hall each morning. This outreach program is consistent with our church's goal of "Building Life-Changing Christian Relationships." Happy Birthday & thank you to Gina McNeil, who leads a large team of volunteers. Why do so many in our church volunteer for VBS and Camp SPARK? Perhaps this well-known hymn and church camp song, "Pass It on," says it best.  (Or Listen & Watch on YouTube)

 It only takes a spark to get a fire going,

And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing;
That's how it is with God's Love,
Once you've experienced it,
Your spread the love to everyone
You want to pass it on.
. . .
I wish for you my friend
This happiness that I've found;
You can depend on God
It matters not where you're bound,
I'll shout it from the mountain top - PRAISE GOD!
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.

Events at Our Church

The Didache Class, led by Dan Smithwick, will be studying "The biblical man" during the month of August.  Primary resources are Romans 2:25-29 and a book by Watchman Nee, The Spiritual Man. Watchman Nee was a famous Methodist Christian teacher/author in China (1903-1972).  Nee used the following illustration to teach Christians the nature of man in three stages:  1) Original Man, 2) Fallen Man, and 3) Born-Again Man. This biblical teaching of man inspired thousands in China to surrender to Christ which in turn led to the House Church movement with millions of Christians.  All are welcome to attend in Fellowship Hall on Sundays at 10:15am.

There are many more fall activities already on our church calendar.  Take a look at "Coming Soon" below or go to our church website:  www.fumcwg.org

Congratulations to our Scouts and their leaders (including Peter Schunke and Bob Karney) for a great summer camp experience.  Troop 210 returned recently with many Scouts who earned merit badges -- and had a fantastic time!
