Research
UFTI Affiliate Works With Sensors to Ensure the Safety of Infrastructure, Especially Bridges  

Dr. Jennifer Rice is an assistant professor who specializes in infrastructure monitoring and works on bridge research. Rice is part of the Structural Engineering group in the UF Department of Civil & Coastal Engineering. She is also a member of the UFTI's Internal Steering Committee. Specifically, her research focuses on the development and application of innovative sensors and networks that collect data to improve the management and maintenance of bridges and other infrastructure. UFTI Alumnus Dr. Ziqi Song Incorporates UF Student Experiences at USU 

Dr. Ziqi Song, a UFTI alumnus, was recently offered a tenure track position at the University of Utah.  He looks back and considers himself fortunate to have spent his time at UF as a graduate student. So much so, he is integrating his favorite aspects into his work at USU, such as using interdisciplinary expertise from other departments and starting an ITE student chapter.

Meet the 2015 Transportation Interns



This year, the STRIDE Center has selected six students to participate in the Transportation Research Internship Program (TRIP). The program began on May 21, 2015. Three of the students, which include Zoe Becerra, Mario Rojas and William Wagner, will be staying on at their respective universities for their internships and Stephen Spana, Ethan Stoop and Tianfa Wu will remain at UF.  Also this year, TRIP will host two students funded by the Brazilian Science Mobility Program.[Read more]
Technology Transfer
Webinar: Performance Measures in Transportation, June 11, 2015 
This webinar has been designed to provide participants with various resources and tools so that practitioners and the community can establish goals and objectives in the transportation planning design process, including monitoring and creating reporting and evaluation methods.  Jody McCullough of FHWA will be presenting on the agency's Guidebook for incorporating performance-based planning into the development of a long-range transportation plan. Leigh Lane from NCSU will be presenting on her efforts, based off her STRIDE-funded project, to assist local entities in developing performance measures for use in a comprehensive transportation planning process, and Doug McLeod of FDOT will provide an overview of Florida's mobility program on performance measures.[Read more]
Webinar: STRIDE Educational Products Showcase, June 18, 2015 
Researchers associated with the STRIDE Center housed in the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI) have produced various course modules as a result of work funded by the Center. The topics that will be showcased in this free webinar include bike/pedestrian, sustainable pavements, transportation safety and public transportation. The modules have been designed to be incorporated into undergraduate and graduate courses, and some are suitable for transportation professionals as well. [Read more]
McTrans and T2 Collaborate on Webinar
When McTrans and T2 get requests for training on the same topic, it is inevitable that the two centers would come together to offer an outstanding service for their target audiences. That is what happened this spring, when the McTrans Center introduced a series of webinars on Traffic Engineering Fundamentals (TEF). [Read more]
