We are lucky in Orange County to have numerous environmental and/or science education summer camps available for children. This is a reference list of some of the programs offered: Environmental/Science Education Summer Camps 2016. Please check the websites for the programs listed for details about registration fees, ages, themes, and activities.
Many of these organizations/providers also offer field trip and/or outreach programs during the academic year to students! Check them out as possible science opportunities for your students.

What's New in Region 9b  

Orange County Department of Education's New STEM/CTE Website

The Orange County Department of Education STEM/CTE department provides evidence-based strategies and practices that spark innovation, promote collaboration, and showcase hands-on/minds-on teaching and learning through an integrated STEM education

Disney Summer of Service Grant

Youth Service America (YSA) and Disney are teaming up to award $500 Disney Summer of Service grants to young change-makers, ages 5-18, who are working with organizations to make their communities healthier, greener, and stronger. If you, or someone you know, are making a difference in your community, go to http://citizenship.disney.com/friends-for-change to learn how to apply. Applications are open through September 30, 2016.

Bolsa Chica Conservancy's New Windows to Our Wetlands Program

This mobile program is designed to bring the wetlands to underserved communities and students who can't come to the wetlands. Windows to Our Wetlands (WOW) offers students and the general public a STEM-based education program that teaches students about wetlands, watersheds, and conservation. The new WOW van houses a touch tank and two aquaria that showcase marine life in local wetlands along with other interactive stations that explore the wonders of saltwater marshes like Bolsa Chica.

CA STEM Symposium
Location: Anaheim, CA
The California STEM Symposium brings together thousands of teachers, administrators, students, higher education representatives and others to engage them in STEM education by providing strategies and resources for program implementation. The Symposium has a special focus on increasing and supporting the participation of women and girls-as well as other underrepresented groups-in STEM fields. It also highlights leaders in classroom innovation from across the state and attract student teams to showcase critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork.

AEOE Southern Section Fall Conference 2016
Location: Arrowhead Ranch Outdoor Science School, CA
Nestled in the San Bernardino Mountains, Arrowhead Ranch is only a few miles from the historic and beautiful Lake Arrowhead Village. At an elevation of over 5,100 feet, it is a great location for outdoor activities and reconnecting with nature. There are great mountain creeks, scenic hiking trails and a nearby beautiful lake. Registration includes 15 educational workshops, Saturday Night Campfire entertainment, and tent camping or dorm accommodations.

CSTA's California Science Education Conference
Location: Palm Springs, CA
For more than 20 years the conference has been providing up-to-the-minute educational programs for California's science educators. The conference features the perfect mix of hands-on, one-hour workshops, engaging lectures from professional scientists and university-level educators, in-depth three- and six-hour courses, one-of-a-kind field course experiences, and quality networking opportunities that are only possible when meeting face-to-face.

Second 60-Day Public Review of California Science Framework
 
 

The Instructional Quality Commission and the State Board of Education welcome your review and comments on the Draft Science Framework for California Public Schools. The document is available on the CA Dept. of Ed. webpage: Draft Science Framework. Comments will be accepted June 28, 2016 to August 29, 2016. Please submit all comments to scienceframework@cde.ca.gov.
