Bay Area Schools Earn U.S. Green Ribbon Schools Award Recognition

Two Bay Area schools and a district were recognized today as 2016 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools at an Earth Day Ceremony in Washington D.C. U.S. Green Ribbon Schools demonstrate excellence in reduced environmental impacts, improved health and wellness, and providing a high quality environmental education. The Bay Area schools completed a rigorous application and nomination process designed to highlight their best practices and inspire others to act.

Please join ChangeScale for the second annual Bay Area Environmental Literacy Congress. The Congress will engage diverse perspectives in an interactive conversation about advancing the field of environmental education in our region with a focus on inclusivity and cultural relevance in environmental education organizations, and strategies and tools for creating equity in environmental learning.

Spaces are still available in FREE summer institutes providing the knowledge, skills and tools to effectively teach students about forest ecology and forest resource management practices. The program brings together natural resource specialists and teachers from rural and urban settings for one week, working side by side to gain a deeper understanding of forest ecosystems and human use of natural resources.

May is Living Schoolyard Month in California and International School Grounds Month around the world! We are very pleased to announce the release of our free set of Activity Guides, produced in honor of these events. Together the Activity Guide set includes a total of 147 schoolyard activities, written by 123 organizations from the United States and around the world. Download a FREE copy here.

Apply for an Ocean Guardian Grant from NOAA to support your school's efforts to reduce human impacts on our oceans and waterways while improving students' ocean literacy. Grants range from $1,000 - $4,000. Applications opened on April 1 and are due May 2 Learn more and apply now.

Spotlight: Summer Science in the Sierra
Bay Area Wilderness Training and California Institute for Biodiversity join forces to organize a unique training series.
Participants have the opportunity to deepen their NGSS understanding and practice while looking at patterns within and across California habitats, how patterns can be scale dependent and how data collection and analysis can be used to link these concepts. Participants will also examine how climate change affects patterns and processes in California and around the world. The institute can be paired with a Frontcountry Leadership Training to learn all the basic skills you will need to successfully take youth on car-camping based overnight trips.
