Read on to learn about exciting Professional Development opportunities for K-12 teachers, as well as some fun summer camps for teenagers.

For Teachers

Floodplains Ecology Institute: June 20-22

8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. daily. Take advantage of this incredible summer teacher training to learn from scientists, engineers, educators, and others involved in floodplain ecology and management. Highlights include field trips to regional floodplains such as the Cosumnes River Preserve, and a career panel with water-related scientists. Project WET and California EEI curriculum training also included. Designed with grade 6-12 teachers in mind, but open to teachers of any grade level. $200 stipend for full participation.

Project Learning Tree in Schoolyard Habitats for K-12 Teachers: June 21-22, Rancho Cordova

Prepare to create wildlife habitat at your site. Get excited and ready to teach your students about native plants and wildlife, and using your schools' outdoor spaces as your classroom. $20 fee.

Tuolumne River Institute for High School Teachers:

July 11-13

3-day raft trip and multidisciplinary study of the Tuolumne River. Have fun on the river while working with UC Davis scientists. Come home prepared to lead your students in assessing your local watershed and exploring natural resource careers. $50 fee.

Forestry Institute for K-12 Teachers. Opportunities in June and July in Northern CA

Gain knowledge, skills and tools to effectively teach forest ecology and forest resource management. Work with natural resource specialists to gain a deeper understanding of forest ecosystems and human use of natural resources. Free, $20 application fee.

Diggin' In: July 11-15 or AUG 8-12, Rancho Cordova

A school garden training at Soil Born Farms to prepare you to establish or grow your garden program. $180 fee.
