Spring is here, time to celebrate Earth Day and get ready for summer! If you are looking for a local event to celebrate Earth Day this month, we have highlighted a few below. Spring is also the time to plan your summer professional development. We are busy planning the 2016 Floodplains Ecology Institute for teachers- see below for info. For Environmental Education Providers, there will be a G.O. (Get Outdoors) Network Gathering on June 15th at Grant High School's GEO Academy to check out GEO's urban greening projects and kitchen and learn more about NGSS and how your programs can support the new standards. You'll see another e-mail from us next week with this and more summer opportunities for teachers, EE providers, and even for students! In the meantime, read on for some spring opportunities and to learn about a fun Environmental Ed video available online.

Climate change is having a profound impact on California water resources, as evidenced by changes in snowpack, sea level and river flows. Join the Department of Water Resources Climate Change Team for to learn the basics of climate science, how DWR is addressing climate change impacts on California's water supply and how the interdisciplinary activities of Project WET can help you integrate climate science knowledge in the classroom!

8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. daily. Take advantage of this incredible summer teacher training to learn from scientists, engineers, educators, and others involved in floodplain ecology and management. Highlights include field trips to regional floodplains such as the Cosumnes River Preserve, and a career panel with water-related scientists. Project WET and California EEI curriculum training also included. Designed with grade 6-12 teachers in mind, but open to teachers of any grade level. $200 stipend for full participation.

9:00 a.m.-1 p.m. Come learn about the California Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI), a free curriculum that teaches science, history and English language arts through an environmental lens. We'll explore three EEI units making connections to the wetlands and wildlife area.

Water Conservation & Pollution Prevention Video
Wish you could take your class on a field trip to the river for Earth Day to learn about conservation and pollution prevention, but it's just not feasible? Try pairing your favorite water resources lesson with this fun video from the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife: "Something's Fishy On the River." An entertaining puppetry video helps children understand threats to rivers, creeks and the ocean. Children learn how to practice conservation and prevent pollution in their community through a series of surprising encounters with various river animals. Sing along with the animals while learning how to keep their homes healthy.
