Green Ribbon Schools Award Winners 
State Superintendent Torlakson celebrates Bay Farm students' environmental efforts.
 
At a ceremony on Friday, February 26, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that Bay Farm School in Alameda, Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland and the San Francisco Unified School District had reached "Green Achiever" status, the State's highest honor. Pittsburg Unified School District in Contra Costa County and Woodside Elementary District in San Mateo County were recognized for their efforts as well.

What's New in Region 4

BEETLES Launches a New Website

The UC Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science BEETLES (Better Environmental Education, Teaching, Learning & Expertise Sharing) project launched a new website full of high quality environmental education resources for program leaders, classroom teachers, and field instructors: beetlesproject.org


Waves, Wetlands, and Watersheds - Coastal Education

FREE workshop on Tuesday, March 15 from 3:45-6:30pm at the San Francisco Maritime Museum. Experience a tour of the ship Balclutha, explore "Adapted for Survival" in the Waves, Wetlands, and Watersheds science guide, and learn about the Humboldt squid and the marine food web while integrating Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. Participants will receive two full EEI class sets and a copy of Waves, Wetlands, and Watershed. Register now.

Ocean Guardian Grants

Apply for an Ocean Guardian Grant from NOAA to support your school's efforts to reduce human impacts on our oceans and waterways while improving students' ocean literacy. Grants range from $1,000 - $4,000. Applications open on April 1 and are due May 2
