This spring, in partnership with the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) will offer a new Hiking Leadership Training course. With this low cost and highly experiential leadership training, we hope to increase access to the outdoors for schools and youth organizations in the South Bay. Participants can expect to learn some of the following skills and leave course ready to lead a hike for their students.
- How to read a map and navigate on trail
- How to find hiking trails in the South Bay that are good for taking youth
- How to plan a hiking trip
- How to manage a youth group on trail
- How to manage risk
- Natural history that you can teach your students on trail
- And much more
When and where are these courses?
The spring 2016 course dates are
- Saturday March 5th, 2016 from 9:30am to 3:30pm at Rancho Canada
- Saturday April 23rd, 2016 from 9:30am to 3:30pm at Rancho Canada
- Saturday June 4th, 2016 from 9:30am to 3:30pm at Rancho Canada
