Hot Topic for 2016 - Environmental Literacy
Environmental Literacy has never been more important as Californians take on and are affected by climate change, drought, overfishing, ocean acidification, nature deficit disorder, and the over-dependence on screen time for our young people. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson released the Blueprint for Environmental Literacy in September to guide strategies and initiatives to realize the ambitious goal of achieving environmental literacy for all California students.
"Now is the moment to elevate environmental literacy as an essential element of a 21st century education in California, and to establish the leadership, collaboration, strategic partnerships, and necessary funding to ensure environmental literacy for all California students." - Tom Torlakson, State Superintendent (Blueprint for Environmental Literacy p3)
This a document that educators, administrators, parents, environmental education advocates, and anyone interested in making sure today's youth get to experience our natural resources should read! Stay tuned for a spring workshop in our region to explore and discuss!

A-Team for Wildlife is a non-profit wildlife education organization offering a wonderful presentation that contributes to environmental literacy on a most urgent and important topic: wildlife extinction. The presentation includes info on conservation technology and wildlife career options. Live animals and robots add excitement and fun.

Education and the Environment Initiative: Free Curriculum and Resources! Common Core and NGSS Correlation Guides Now Available!
If you aren't aware of this FREE resource, check it out today! There are 85 units to help you help your students achieve environmental literacy, covering all grade levels and multiple disciplines. You can download digital resources anytime. You can also get class sets of all materials needed (still FREE!) if you attend a live training or watch a webinar!
