Everyone's back in school and you're enjoying the last watermelons and the first pumpkins-- that means conference season is upon us! No matter what your role is in regards to Environmental Education, you are sure to find a conference this fall to interest and excite you! Right here in our region, CSTA's California Science Education Conference comes to Sacramento October 2-4:

Food and agriculture offer many connections to environmental literacy in the Sacramento Region, which also happens to be the Farm-to-Fork Capital of America. What's New in Region 3

9/26: Project WET and EEI Teacher Training at Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael.

Get ready for a great year using the environment to integrate student learning of standards and core subjects through the activities of Project WET and the Education & the Environment Initiative (EEI). This is STEM learning at its best and will include a light breakfast, lunch and you'll walk away with a Project WET 2.0 Guide and EEI materials!

10/23 Caring for Our Watersheds: Teacher Intro Workshop at Center for Land-Based Learning in Winters.

Engage your 9-12th grade students in writing with their own ideas and the incentive of cash prizes! This workshop will give teachers program details and include presentations from water resource professionals.

10/3 Solar Schoolhouse:

Learn how to integrate solar energy education into existing curriculum, while teaching students the value of using renewable energy sources. Teachers will make two take-away projects and will receive Your Solar Home curriculum and DVD as well as other classroom materials.

Highlighted Program: Sierra Nevada Journeys
 
 
 

Since 2006, Sierra Nevada Journeys has been offering high-quality, outdoor science education programs for elementary students. Now, the full suite of SNJ's Classrooms Unleashed programs are available to 1st-5th grade teachers in the Sacramento Region!
SNJ's Classrooms Unleashed program is designed by teachers to be inquiry-driven, hands-on, student-centered, and highly engaging. Each of the Classrooms Unleashed programs includes three 90-minute in-class lessons taught by credentialed SNJ Instructors, a science exploration field trip led by SNJ instructors, and Common Core-aligned extension lessons for the classroom teacher for before and after the program.

SNJ also offers a wide variety of professional development opportunities for teachers, and is a coordinator for Project Learning Tree in Nevada. Check http://www.sierranevadajourneys.org/professional-development for more information about PD with SNJ.
