Welcome Fall! And What We Can All Learn From the Butte Fire
Residents of the Delta Sierra region got a rude reminder in early September of what dry weather and years of drought have done to create bone-dry and very flammable fuel. The Butte Fire destroyed homes, wildlife habitat and timber, and polluted the air far and wide. As some residents return home and many others begin the process of rebuilding their lives, the occurrence of fires in our region is something that everyone should be discussing. We have an opportunity to teach students about the causes and sweeping effects of fires by asking important questions. For example, what role does California's drought play? How does climate change affect the frequency and intensity of wildfire? And how does the forest regenerate?
CAL FIRE's Fire Safety Education Programs are spread statewide and come in the form of school programs. They are a great resource of information and provide teachers access to information about materials and programs geared specifically to educators.

Salmonids In The Classroom!
Come learn how to raise salmon from eggs in your classroom, and become qualified to receive eggs from the hatchery! Raising salmon in the classroom is an opportunity to teach students to understand, respect and protect freshwater, estuarine and marine ecosystems, and to recognize how all humans are linked to these complex environments.
Become certified to raise salmon from eggs to fish mature enough to release by attending a teacher workshop.
