Summertime

"Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."

 - John Muir

Greetings fellow environmental education enthusiasts! The excitement of summer is upon us! It is time for travel, sightseeing, visiting family and friends. It is a great time to visit our local, state and national parks. Summer is the time for attending 'camp', for the kids and 'workshops' for the adults. The North State is rich with outdoor recreational activities to share with our children, and the care and work it took and still takes to preserve this wonderful and unique heritage for future generations.

Now is the time to get out in nature to recharge our souls, find inspiration and guidance that will sustain us in sharing our joy of nature to students and teachers, alike, in the upcoming year. If you are like me, you have a summer wish list. Mine includes these favorites:

  • Check out camps for kids
  • Check out and register for summer science workshops filled with great and inspiring environmental education, NGSS and STEM resourses
  • Visit nearby National and State Parks
  • Camp & Hike
  • Raft and kayak
  • Sit in my yard
  • Swim in the river and lake
  • Check out the NSTA website for environmental education & STEM/NGSS support

Find solace in nature, renewal in the beauty and splendor of our world, from the ocean wonders to mountain peak vistas. Visit and support natural science museums. Spend time just watching nature change in a day. Visit old favorites and explore new venues. Find comradery in local outings and workshops offered throughout our region. Mostly, I hope you have an exciting and educational summer.

Summer has arrived! Time for sleeping in, sunscreen, family vacations and best of all....SUMMER CAMP! Ah the magic of camp life. Making up kooky camp names, new friends, trying new things, exploring, playing, learning and growing. Who's doesn't love a good summer camp? There are loads of studies out there telling of the benefits of summer camp for growth in children and as a long time camp goer myself, I can say this is an experience you don't want to miss as a kid. Not to mention the added benefits for parents (a little time off for you too, wink, wink). So when you're looking for something for the kids to do this summer, check out all of the awesome summer programs offered here in Region 2 and all over California. There are some amazing camps out there and we want you to find them! Most providers are gearing up, not winding down and they are ready for you and your kiddos to sign up and show up. Whether your youngsters are interested in adventure, water sports, nature, hunting, farming, or any number of things, you can find fun summer activities for her/him right here on the CREEC website. Happy Camping!
