May is Living Schoolyard Month
Established by California Assembly Resolution ACR-128, schools across California are encouraged to "take their students outside to celebrate their school grounds and use them for hands-on learning, place-based inquiry, recreation, environmental stewardship and community-building."
To help celebrate Living Schoolyard Month, Green Schoolyards America worked with organizations from across California to produce an activity guide for engaging students in art, recreation, health, agriculture, energy, climate study, wildlife habitat and watershed stewardship while focusing on the thoughtful use of materials and developing place-based understanding.

This summer, seventeen Bay Area high school students representing eleven cities from Windsor to Mountain View will travel to Hong Kong and China for three weeks as part of an environmental leadership tour funded by the US State Department and organized by Via Programs. Students will learn about international environmental issues and participate in a service-learning conference while traveling. Upon returning to the Bay Area students will develop environmental service-learning projects in their own communities to help address international and local issues.
