Classroom Aquarium Education Program

After a California Department of Fish and Wildlife Salmonids in the Classroom Training, fourteen teachers in the region participated in growing salmon from eggs and releasing them back into the river for the first time. The Mokelumne Fish Hatchery provided each classroom with 40 eggs, and we wrote grants to get the funding to build the special aquariums needed. What excitement for the students (and teachers) as the eggs grew from just having eyes to emerging as little alevin, then fry that the students could release and watch swim away to a life in the river and ocean.
