CEEF Brings Environmental Education and Stewardship Resources to LA Teachers!
 
 

The CaliforniEnvironmental Education Foundation (CEEF) is excited to offer an engaginthree-Saturday TeacheInstitute on "Best Practices of Environmental Education and Stewardship" utilizing investigation-focused pedagogto maximize collaborativlearning in place-based stewardship. The Institute features speakers from three nationally recognized EE curriculum projects: Project WILD, Project WET, and Project Learning Tree. In addition, there will be speakers from the highly regarded National Geographic Society, the Jane Goodall Institute, the K-12 Alliance as well as content experts from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The Institute will convene over three days, January 31, March 28, and May 16, and is open to all educators teaching students in grades 4-12 in the LADWP service area. 


 

Participants will be eligible for a $600 stipend and three continuing education units (CEUs) through the University of California upon completion of the Institute and required activities. Institute co-sponsors include the LADWP, state Department of Water Resources, Sandia National Laboratories, and the Metropolitan Water District.

Fostering Sustainable Behavior: An Introduction to Community-Based Social Marketing, by Dr. Doug McKenzie-Mohr has been recommended by Time Magazine and become requisite reading for those who deliver programs to promote sustainable behavior. Now Dr. McKenzie Mohr is sharing his work in a multi-day workshop here in Los Angeles. January 27-30 at the TreePeople Center for Community Forestry.

Generation Earth Returns!
 
 

Generation Earth, an environmental education program of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works presented by TreePeople has returned after a recent hiatus. The program provides resources and personalized support to secondary school teachers in Los Angeles County who want to implement an environmental service project on their campus or in their community with their students.


 

Projects that address primarily waste and water issues in L.A. are addressed through a menu of available toolkits covering solutions including recycling, rain and native gardens, tree planting, E-waste campaigns and more!


 

Free workshops are offered year round on environmental service learning, waste reduction and recycling, and water pollution prevention.
