Welcome Shannon Gordon as our new Environmental Education Program Consultant!

The CREEC Network is pleased to announce that Shannon Gordon is our new Education Program Consultant for Environmental Education up at the California Department of Education in Sacramento. Shannon began working for CDE just over a year ago in October 2013. Since that time she has been highly instrumental in the development, adoption, and rollout of the California Next Generation Science Standards. Her passion for, and background in, Environmental Education prompted her to apply for the Environmental position. Shannon graduated from Cook College, Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. She attended Tufts University, School of Veterinary Medicine with the goal of becoming a wildlife Veterinarian but discovered the field of environmental education was closer to her passion to help educate others about environmental issues. She has worked as an educator and program coordinator for a variety of Environmental Education Centers as well as taught three years of formal middle school science. Shannon received her Master of Arts studying environmental education organizations and their relationship with the formal education system. Welcome aboard Shannon!

Delta Studies Institute Field Trip to Big Break Regional Park

As part of the Delta Studies Institute teachers participated in a full day bus tour of the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta visiting the Walnut Grove cross channel, the Skinner Fish Screens, Big Break Regional Shoreline and the Tracy Pumping Plant. The photo shows the teachers exploring the walk-on map of the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta. After the exploration, we poured a bucket of water onto the map to see how it flowed through the delta and down to SF Bay
