October 2014 - Region 8 - Central Coast

Take a look at the October 2014 CREEC Newsletter for Region 8

Your October 2014 CREEC Newsletter is here! This month you will find access to upcoming conferences and workshops, grants & contests and the latest newsletter from the Central Coast STEM Collaborative. This year all of us will be taking a closer look at the Next Generation Science Standards as NGSS contains a major focus on science content related to the environment - energy, nature, climate, sustainability and earth science as well as a focus on engineering that will help foster a transformation to green technology and a greener economy.

With the CREEC Network you can access high quality curriculum, such as EEI, that is Common Core (and in the next couple of years NGSS aligned) AND teaches environmental stewardship. Look at the Region 8 homepage for EEI trainings and webinars. Visit the CREEC website for more conferences, grants, student contests and Region 8 calendar of events.

San Luis Obispo County EE Providers are getting together on October 28th at SLO County Office of Education Computer Lab at 4pm to look at examples of environmental education curriculum aligned to Common Core and NGSS. Please note that we do want all EE Providers to know about NGSS is and what it looks like, but to take your time in aligning as the science framework isn't even published yet. Please email tlees@slocoe.org to let her know that you are coming on October 28th.

Next Generation Science Standards are great news for environmental education!
