Nature Bowl 2014

Nature Bowl is now in its third year in the foothills of CREEC Region 6. Thirteen teams from all three counties – the most ever – participated in this years’ event, held on May 6 at New Melones Visitor Center. All the students, teachers, coaches and parents worked hard to prepare for the days’ activities, and three teams were able to advance to the regionals, held at Sacramento State University.
The main focus of Nature Bowl is not on the competition, however. It is a cooperative team activity where third through sixth grade students work together to learn about their local environment and are challenged to think critically and creatively. The science-based activities are correlated with the NG State Science Standards and reinforce important classroom topics. During the Nature Bowl event, students present “Enviromercials," participate in events such as Nature Relay, Nature Investigations, Team and Bell Ringers, and hike and journal with a Ranger.
If you’re interested in participating in next year’s event, contact CREEC Coordinator Wendy Harrison at wendy@creec.org and watch for flyers in the fall.
