The 2013-14 school year brings new and exciting opportunities in environmental education as the CREEC Network launches the newly upgraded CREEC.org 
with a complete revitalization of our Resource Directory! 
 
If you're an EE Provider, please visit the new CREEC.org to create a master account for your organization and post your programs, resources, video and more, so teachers can find them!  We have an illustrated user guide that can help! 
 
If you're a teacher, please visit the site to see what's coming, and come back again in a few weeks after the providers have had a chance to post! 

No matter what your interest in EE, you'll want to bookmark the EVENTS CALENDAR so you can stay informed of great events and happenings in Region 9a!
 

EEI Information and Updates

EEI's Continuing Education course "Teaching the Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) Curriculum" starts soon!   

Teach your class the EEI Curriculum unit you choose, engage them with new and exciting standards-based and Common Core connected curriculum, and earn credit!  Choosing the unit you want to teach ensures you can stay on your schedule, and of course, curriculum materials are included in the course cost.

By completing this convenient and flexible online course, you will 
earn one university credit issued by the Department of Extended Learning at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). Visit us for course syllabus, cost, registration and future course dates.

FREE online teacher professional development course! 
Water: The Essential Resource

October 9 - December 11, 2013, includes 45 hours of instruction, focusing on the ocean and freshwater systems and incorporating strategies designed for grades 4th to 8th.This experience supports the California Environmental Education Initiative (EEI).Teachers taking this course will: 

  • Increase their environmental science content knowledge
  • Develop an understanding of the importance of water in Earth's natural systems
  • Have access to National Geographic explorers and scientists
  • Prepare classroom content using engaging and effective instructional strategies
  • Be part of a statewide, collaborative online community
  • Receive continuing education credit upon completion of course

Local Nonprofit offers free in-class Sustainability presentations for K-12!
 

The 1:1 Movement is a San Diego based organization focused on promoting simple, cost-effective, and efficient methods of conservation in our community. The organization aims to localize environmental degradation and empower students with!impact either sustainable or non-sustainable practices have on San Diego and beyond. These presentations reach kindergarten through grade 12, achieving multidisciplinary subjects, focusing on five main platforms: waste, water, food, energy, and transportation. By identifying background information on each of these issues, students develop their own solutions which are relevant to their lives. Each presentation includes activities which are age appropriate. 


In the last school year, the program reached over 5,000 students in the San Diego area. They are eager to expand this number and work with your students, and currently scheduling educators for the 2013-2014 school year. There is no cost associated with this presentation; it is a service to the community. It runs approx.45 minutes-1 hour.

Registration is open for The Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education's Northern and Southern Fall Conferences!

 
AEOE supports and inspires educators in their quest for the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to help all learners understand, appreciate and care for their environment. As an integral part of achieving their mission, they encourage direct experience outdoors. The fall conferences include about 20 workshops participants can choose to attend, ranging from natural history to pedagogy and more. 

  

NORTHERN FALL CONFERENCE 

October 18 - 20, 2013 at Pioneer Trail Campground in Pinecrest, CA.

Apply to be a presenter (due 10/1). Accepted Lead Presenters will receive a $15 discount. Nominate a Northern Environmental Educator of the Year.


Lodging: Camping, Bring your gear. 

Fee before deadline:  $30
(includes Saturday dinner only and light breakfast)

Walk-in fee:  $50

 

 SOUTHERN FALL CONFERENCE

November 1 - 3, 2013 at Fox Outdoor School in Santa Ysabel, CA.

Announcing AEOE's Statewide Spring Conference  

March 28 - 30, 2014 at SCICON Outdoor School in Springville, CA. 
The statewide conference includes approximately 70 workshops ranging in topics from national history to pedagogy and more. Keynote, entertainment,
5 meals, 2 nights lodging.
