CREEC introduces our new website, with a new searchable Resource Directory, currently being completely revitalized! 



If you're an EE Provider, please visit the new CREEC to create a master account for your organization and post your programs so teachers can find them! 

If you're a teacher, please visit the site to see what's coming, and come back again in a few weeks after the providers have had a chance to post!

Education and the Environment (EEI) Initiative 

EEI's Continuing Education Course, entitled, "Teaching the Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) is available for registration.    

You teach your class the EEI Curriculum unit of your choice, and get curriculum materials provided for free plus 1 (one) university credit issued by the Department of Extended Learning at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). Thanks for teaching EEI!

If you have already taught an EEI unit, you can earn a  FREE second unit, complete with a classroom set of student materials by completing the EEI post survey. 

 

Hot Off The Presses! The Common Core Correlations for the first Sixteen (16) EEI units are now posted on the EEI website.  
EEI units are great for informational text readings, and science and history/social science anchors for literacy.  
 
National Geographic Education and Annenberg Learner invite you to a FREE online teacher professional development course!

Water: The Essential Resource. 
October 9 - December 11, 2013 
University Credit for Online Study focuses on ocean and freshwater systems and incorporating strategies for teaching environmental topics Designed for 4th -8th grade teachers, this experience supports the California Environmental Education Initiative (EEI).

October 17:  EEI Orientation  EEI Orientation at the Ty Warner Sea Center on the Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara at 5pm to 8pm.
Teachers, come receive one free EEI unit for your classroom.

October 29: CREEC Network Annual Meeting of EE Providers at the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education Computer Training Lab 4pm to 6pm.
Teachers and EE Providers are invited to learn all about the new CREEC website and how you can make it work for you and your students!

November 9: School Garden Showcase at the UCCE Master Gardeners Auditorium, 9am to 12noon. 
Local school gardens will share what is "growing on" at their campuses plus breakout sessions to help each other out.  Hosted by  Master Gardeners' Garden Based Learning Committee.   Email Teresa for information.
 
December 5 and 6: Project WET and EEI Training for Teachers in Santa Maria.
Teachers will receive the Project WET Curriculum, one EEI unit for their classroom, plus one EEI water unit for Grades 5, 6 and High School. For more information contact  Myra Ritchie, Water Conservation Specialist,

Reading, writing and natural resources 
The National Resource Conservation Service offers a new online site that offers resources for young conservationists.  Just in time for the new school year, NRCS has unveiled its new Teachers and Students webpage. Meet S.K. Worm and other natural resources characters.   

 

Climate Change Connections Curriculum Now Available in Spanish  
The Eco-Schools USA/NASA Climate Change Connections curriculum, designed for grades 9-12 and utilizing NASA resources, is now available in Spanish.

A New FREE Resource for Online Water Information
The Water Education Foundation offers Aquapedia.com, an interactive online water encyclopedia that provides factual information on topical water issues. Resource articles are vetted by the Water Education Foundation and supplemented with photos, graphics, videos, maps and other online tools.  For more information visit the Water Education Foundation.

 

Eco-Schools USA Program helps integrate sustainable principles throughout curriculum and in schools.  Eco-Schools now has a new "Dashboard" feature that helps your Eco-Action team better manage your sustainability efforts.  Email Eco-schools.

Participate in the National Green Apple Day of Service - September 28, 2013.

Hosted by The Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council, the 2nd annual Green Apple Day of Service lets you join planning and participating in local service projects that support healthy, sustainable schools. Last year, more than 1,200 communities from all  50 states and more than 40 countries participated in projects ranging from garden plantings  to renewable energy seminars. Green Schools National Conference in Sacramento from March 27-29, 2014              

celebrate the work of schools, districts, and partnerships that are leading the green schools movement and who can articulate best practices that are ready to be tested by others.  Presentations that include successful partnerships among education, non-profit, corporate and public sector individuals and organizations will be the cornerstone of the 2014 conference.  To learn more, or to submit a proposal to present by Sept 30, visit The Green Schools.
