El
Futuro
March Update

HERMOSA = "BEAUTIFUL"
Many young Latinas come to us feeling distressed and overwhelmed. I learned in Spanish class that the word hermosa means beautiful. As we work with young girls who feel so sad and who don't believe in themselves, one of the most wonderful experiences is watching them begin to smile and believe they are beautiful. Indeed, the word takes on a whole new meaning.

It's also beautiful to watch the care provided by our awesome team at El Futuro to help address such a critical issue in our community.

Principal Neil Clay shares how El Futuro has been so helpful to him and his staff at Forest View Elementary School.

"THE FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS"
Lunch of Celebration and Benefit

We are having a special luncheon in two weeks on Thursday, April 10 from 12p-1p with guests beginning to arrive around 11:30.  It will be at the Marriott Hotel across the street from our office in Durham.  After the program, at 1pm we'll open our doors and give tours to those who want to see our Durham clinic and meet the awesome El Futuro team. It would be an honor to have you join us!  There is no charge for the event but instead it is an hour program celebrating the work of El Futuro.  At the end there is an opportunity to donate to the work.

CELEBRATIONS!

Roberto celebrates a boy who is the "Outstanding Student of the Month" at his elementary school.

 A year ago they were talking about holding him back to repeat.  Now he is a top performer! Additionally, through El Futuro his mother has been able to get help for her own anxiety that has burdened her since childhood when she experienced wartime atrocities and gang violence in El Salvador.

Luke celebrates:  Yesterday I officially met a little girl who always sneaks into my office to play with the toys when her mom isn't watching.  She's come a number of times with her mother to therapy because her mother suffers from severe depression and PTSD.  So I knew the little girl with pig-tails and dress on from her past missions to find my toys, but only yesterday learned of the ways she misbehaves in class, hits her sisters when frustrated, and cries at night as she falls asleep.  I'm so thankful we have been able to begin helping this little girl and look forward to each step of success in her future!
