From the Director

On Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10 AM, County Executive Leggett will hold a ceremony to officially reopen the Twinbrook Library.
Closed on July 25, 2015, the Twinbrook Library was the first MCPL branch to be refreshed under the County Executive's Library Refurbishment Level of Effort Capital Improvement Program budget. This level of effort project is intended to provide a structured process to ensure that library services stay "modern and current" and the buildings' infrastructures remain safe, efficient, and operationally effective. When appropriate, refurbishments are coordinated with 21st Century Library Enhancements project work, which is intended to maintain and keep technology current in existing library branches. Under this new approach, refurbishments will be completed for 17 libraries during the six-year CIP period.
The work to refresh the Twinbrook branch included:
- ADA upgrade of the restrooms and parking spaces;
- Two collaboration/conference spaces;
- New combined information and circulation customer service desk;
- Enhanced preschool children's space with new shelving;
- Additional furniture;
- Painting;
- Selective replacement of carpet;
- Outside green space made accessible for programs;
- Additional electrical outlets;
- Enhanced Wi-Fi;
 - Digital display; and
- New technology including a 3D Printer, charging station for customers' mobile devices, and in house use laptops for loan.
I'm excited for you all to see the newly refreshed Twinbrook branch awash in vibrant, welcoming colors and enjoy all the added features and services.

She says "every day is different and never boring!" Ann is originally from Panama, where she grew up as a fourth generation Panama Canal "Zonian;" she enjoys traveling back to Panama whenever she can. Ann lives in Damascus with her husband and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, walking her dogs, cooking, and reading.
 Dianne Whitaker is the incoming Collection Manager. She has been with MCPL for 16 years. Beginning as a part-time Librarian I at the Aspen Hill branch, she has worked at the Bethesda, Little Falls, and Wheaton branches.
