Irish American Heritage Month is a special proclamation issued yearly by the United States President or Congress to honor the achievements and contributions of Irish immigrants and their descendants living in the United States. The heritage month is in March to coincide with the Irish national holiday on March 17, Saint Patrick's Day.
March is National Crochet Month. Celebrate with us at Gaithersburg Branch! On March 15, 11 AM - 4 PM, come learn how to make a bracelet and take your sample with you. We will have free giveaways and a special drawing, so whether you have never crocheted or are a veteran crocheter, come on by! Everybody is welcome!
St. Patrick's Day Musical Jamboree with Miss Julie at Aspen Hill Branch, March 17, 5:30 PM. Sing, play and dance to all sorts of music including some Irish tunes. There will be many musical instruments to play and puppets and props to try out.
NASA Careers! Learn about NASA careers, explore the wonders of NASA science, and celebrate the contribution of women to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) during this Women's History Month program at Damascus Branch, March 28, 10:30 AM and 2 PM.
Interact with a female NASA scientist, focusing on the Global Precipitation Measurement Mission.
An Astro4Girls event sponsored by NASA Science4Girls and Their Families, whose goal is to engage girls and their families in making discoveries for themselves and to empower women's success, especially in science, starting from when they are young. |

For kids and families on reopening day: At 11 AM join Christiana Drapkin and her jazz trio as they perform "Bop Goes the Weasel," an introduction to jazz for children of all ages and their parents.
At 2 PM there will be stories from around the world by acclaimed storyteller Diane Macklin as she captivates all with her dancing hands, lyrical voice and high energy!

It's Time for Scrabble Scramble!

2014 Civil Rights Educational Freedom Tour, March 31- April 5, 2014.
Join the Office of Human Rights in a fun-filled and educational tour traveling south to visit the birth place of the Civil Rights Movement. Retrace the Freedom Trail and learn about Martin Luther King Jr.; Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott; Voters Rights and other significant events of the Civil Rights Movement. Seasoned Spellers: A Senior Spelling Bee
Join in a day of friendly competition and a celebration of words at Gaithersburg Library, April 5, 11 AM. If you are a senior (55 or over), register today for the Senior Spelling Bee! Invite your friends to join the competition.
