B. Parker Hamilton, MCPL Director
I am excited to announce four policy changes that will be effective February 17, 2013:
  • The number of checkouts per account will increase from 50 items to 100 items.
  • Customers will be able to place holds on 30 items rather than 15.
  • The number of DVDs able to be checked out will increase from 10 to 20.
  • Customers may renew an item three times rather than twice, as long as there is no other customer waiting for the item.

By implementing these policy changes, MCPL will ensure that more materials will be in the hands of our customers, and not sitting on shelves. Barriers to customers who need more materials or need materials for a longer period of time will be removed. We are committed to being responsive and accountable to our residents and users.

Library Board

In 2012, four Montgomery County Library Board Achievement Awards were presented; two in each of the categories: Eleanor Ablard Award and the newly renamed David Chiles Member of the Year Award.

The Eleanor Ablard Award is presented to the LAC with the most effective program linking the LAC, the library and its community of users. The recipients of the 2012 Eleanor Ablard Award were Wheaton LAC and Damascus LAC.

The David Chiles Member of the Year Award is presented to a member, members, or an LAC in recognition of work during the year. The 2012 Member of the Year Award was a tie between Ralph Hitchens of the Poolesville LAC and Linda Pottern Co-Chair of the Davis LAC.

The purpose of the Achievement Awards is to publicly recognize and honor projects, activities and/or special achievements by Library Advisory Committees (LACs). The Achievement Awards are intended to inspire LACs to become more active and creative in working on projects to benefit their libraries and communities, to acknowledge and encourage their colleagues, and to encourage LAC innovative initiatives throughout the County. The Achievement Awards are approved by the Library Board and are presented annually at a meeting of the Board and LACs.
