 Dear Parents and PCEF Supporters:
It's June and school is out for the summer! Seven days into vacation and my children are already enjoying late night play sessions in City Park and lazy mornings on our front porch. It's hard to believe another school year has passed!
What an amazing year it has been! This year, I have been inspired and filled with gratitude. At PCEF, we are lucky to know teachers across all seven schools and the Learning Center. We have a window into their classrooms when they apply for grants. We see them advocating for their children. We see them tackling challenges. We see them taking time, to go above and beyond, to make sure that their kids have a quality education.
PCEF recently recognized inspirational teachers during our Excellent Educators Express, sponsored by Deer Valley Resort. Seven "Excellent Educators" were honored - each selected by their peers as outstanding examples of what it is to be a teacher in Park City. These teachers were described as "holding teachers and students to high standards; fair-minded; expertly juggling demands; going above and beyond; passionate; creative; team player; showing love and kindness toward students; setting the bar high; and engaging students." What is so inspiring is that we all know a teacher who embodies all of these characteristics!
This year, PCEF grant programs invested $1 million dollars into the schools. This support allows teachers and administrators to "think outside the box" and fund programs that otherwise would not be offered in our schools. These programs make an impact on students. One of my favorite elementary school grants this year was for African drums. A student thank you note sums it up perfectly. "Thank you for the African drums. When I look at them, I light up with a big smile. When we play them, it makes us so happy." These African Drums make me happy too!
We hope you will take a minute to celebrate with us because PCEF's work is your work. Your donations, your volunteer hours, your advocacy - defines the Park City Education Foundation. We simply could not bring happiness to an elementary school drummer if you did not support PCEF. You invested $1 million into our schools. You funded programs that reached every school and every student! Wow, thank you!
We look forward to seeing you in the fall! Save the date, the Red Apple Gala is September 12th and the Author-in-Residence Community Event featuring Daniel James Brown and his book "Boys in the Boat" is September 15th.
With sincere appreciation,
 Abby McNulty, Executive Director |
Everyone is Reading The Boys in the Boat!
Thanks to you, our donors, PCEF is proud to present this year's Author-in-Residence author, Daniel James Brown. The PCHS English department has chosen Daniel James Brown's NY Times bestseller, 'The Boys in the Boat' for every PCHS student to read over the summer.
We are thrilled that the PC and Summit County Libraries and Dolly's Bookstore have also chosen The Boys in the Boat as their 'One Book One Community' selection. Now all of us can share the experience of reading this epic story of an unlikely American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany!
In addition, PCEF invites everyone to a FREE community conversation with the author on September 15th, at 7:00 pm in the Jim Santy Auditorium.
