Funding Focus - Where Are They Now?

The Scholarship Advisor at the High School is such an integral part of student success, it's hard to imagine that there hasn't always been one. This is a great example of a program that was initially funded by PCEF, and has gone on to be absorbed by the school district.

PCEF's original mission was to raise money for senior scholarships. As we grew, our mission changed to fund programs for all students. In 2003, we collaborated with the school district to fund a part-time advisor at the high school for one semester. In that first year, a little over $50,000 was raised.

In 2005, PCEF funded a full-time position. Community scholarship dollars doubled to over $100,000. In addition, several new responsibilities were added, such as student resume building activities, community outreach, financial aid counseling, publicity, and building relationships with colleges and universities.

In 2009, the program was deemed so successful and essential that the position was absorbed by the school district.

Last year, $160,00 was raised, and 165 Community Scholarships were awarded! Over $1,000,000 has been raised and awarded since 2003! In addition, 82% of the graduating class chose to attend a 4-year college, vs 71% in 2003. And $10M was offered in financial aid packages, vs $3M in 2003.

Tomorrow, you can help this amazing program during Live PC Give PC. The High School is raising money for scholarships. You can help every student achieve their dream of going to college. To learn more and to donate, Click Here.
