Funding Focus - Latinos in Action Students are Building a Mentorship Program
Latinos in Action Students are Building a Mentorship Program Latinos in Action (LIA) was established in the Park City School District three years ago to build leadership skills among Park City's Latino High School students. To participate in the Latinos in Action class, students must be bi-lingual, maintain a specific grade point average, perform 100 hours of community service and participate in a rigorous interview process. Only 30 students are selected annually. Park City High School's Latino's in Action students are eager to share their leadership skills with younger Hispanic students in the Park City School District. As such, they have developed the Mentorship Academy to engage their younger peers at Ecker Hill Middle School. The Mentorship Academy pairs a high school Latino's in Action student with an Ecker Hill Middle School Latino student. The mentor helps a student navigate family, peer, and school issues while also demonstrating the excitement and pride of doing well in school. While the Mentorship Academy encourages students to informally work with each other, it is part of a more formal framework. The Academy includes quarterly visits to Ecker Hill Middle School where LIA students shadow their younger peer in the classroom setting for the first part of the day. The second part of the day takes place over lunch where students engage in conversations about peer pressure, self-esteem, and motivation. Latinos in Action Students are making a difference in our schools and in our community. And starting this year, LIA classes are also at Treasure Mountain Junior High and Ecker Hill Middle School. Costs for the Mentorship Academy are underwritten by a grant from the Park City Mountain Resort Legacy Fund, held at the Park City Foundation. |

Red Apple Gala - Resounding Success!
Start with a fabulous setting, food, and service, all provided by Montage Deer Valley. Add generous support of education with a Zions Bank sponsorship, and fabulous auction items donated by businesses near and far. Make sure it's overseen by an incredible volunteer committee. Don't forget the dancing! That's the recipe for this year's Red Apple Gala.
The Gala was a resounding success, raising $340,000 - double last year's numbers! The event sold out early, thanks to our philanthropic attendees. With a $50,000 donation from the Brink Foundation and an anonymous $25,000 donation during the Fund-A-Student portion of the program, the Gala was a record-breaking evening for PCEF. This event would not be possible without the help of a crew of 120 volunteers, including children from the 8th/9th grade Leadership Class at TMJH. We'd like to thank all our volunteers for their gifts of time and talent! The best part? All the proceeds go back into teacher, site, and district grants. These grants help open doors, launch dreams, and ignite passions in all our kids. They advance student achievement. We can't thank you enough for making this possible!
