I wrote a blog article a couple of weeks back that seemed to speak to so many women. "Going Through The Change" was about the very profound change we as women go through when we are educated, equipped and empowered to protect ourselves. 

The confidence that comes with this sense of capability is very powerful and very noticeable. It breaks some sort of "bondage" we have to society's notion that we are weak and need protecting. Of course we appreciate the protection of the men in our lives and that of the police and others as they play an important role our security. Not being dependent on it and knowing that whatever comes our way we are trained and equipped to fight, is a huge shift in a woman's self perception. I have found that I walk with more "strength" and make eye contact more. I can even intimidate someone who is possibly checking me out as a possible target. My new awareness of my surroundings and my keen sense of my own safety has changed me from the inside out. Even things as simple as asserting myself when my needs are not met or when customer service is poor. I am just not afraid any longer to speak up. 

Personally I think self confidence is a beautiful thing and acts as a protective barrier from those who might seek to take advantage of us, mislead us and even harm us.
