Greetings!

I had the chance to visit with and listen to NRA Vice President Wayne LaPierre recently at a NRA Voice of Freedom event. I am energized with a new level of understanding of just how critical this upcoming election cycle is and how VERY important it is to our right to bear arms that we all take responsibility and vote. It is more than the Presidential election as the senatorial races are critical to our Second Amendment rights as well. Please read the article I wrote about your role "Are You Ready?

The NRA each year "scores" candidates based soley on the candidates position and voting history as it relates to gun rights. They don't ask about any other issue - just Second Amendment issues. These are published now and available.  http://www.nrapvf.org/

I am not sure we fully realize how much of a watchdog the NRA is, fiercely protecting and fighting the many attacks on our rights that never cease, all year round. I also realize that not everyone is a diehard fan of the NRA, and this letter to you is not a membership drive for them, but they are on the front lines, spending huge resources doing battle for us as well as making available valuable information and resources.

Needless to say I am impressed as well as grateful that they are there. No one has the influence nor the ability like the NRA.

Please vote. I truly believe that our right to bear arms as we know it is at risk. WE are the only ones that can determine the outcome.

GET A GRIP

Getting a proper grip on your firearm is very important. Your firearm must become an extension of your hand and arm, it replaces the finger in pointing at an object. It effects your sighting (aim), your balance, your ability to work the hammer (on a revolver) to pull the trigger, to work safety mechanism (if your gun has one) and to absorb much of the recoil with as little discomfort as possible and your safety. There are some slight differences between the grip for a revolver and that of a semiautomatic pistol.

For self defense, a two handed grip is always better. It is however recommended to get comfortable gripping and shooting your gun one handed as well, in both dominant and non-dominant hands. This is in the event you are somehow disabled and forced to shoot one handed. The support hand stabilizes the handgun and makes the shooter more accurate.

Because two hands are involved, each hand has it's own place and function in the grip.

Ankle Holster
If you have been following The Well Armed Woman for any length of time or watched any of my Women's Holster Talk Videos, you know I am all about comfort and versatility when it comes to holsters. I am focused on form and function. You likely won't find bling on my holsters but what you will find is comfort and functional holsters that fit a woman's lifestyle and form.

The ankle holster  is one of those must haves for your "Holster Closet". We all wear pants some of the time, and many of those times on the waist carry isn't an option. For those of you that carry a back up gun, the ankle holster is a good option. Our goal is to have multiple options so we can effectively carry our firearms with the variety of clothing styles we wear.

Women have shorter and narrower calves and typically narrower ankles than men, so the typical ankle holster can be cumbersome and uncomfortable and just down right too big! The Well Armed Woman Ankle Holster is made from top quality comfort neoprene for all day wear. It has a comfortable 1" wide removable calf strap for added support. It's garter is adjustable so you can place the holster at any drop length. It is available in multiple firearm holster sizes to accommodate most gun sizes. There are three ankle sizes available as well because as we know there is more than one size ankle!

Do You Need A Gun?

Only you can answer this question, and it's not an easy one. As women, this is a tough question for us to ask ourselves because it means facing our vulnerabilities. For our own peace of mind we tend to assure ourselves that; "people are good" or "my neighborhood is safe" or "I am always aware, I can prevent something from happening." Of course we know that none of these things are completely true, and if we are single women our risks go up exponentially.  (statistics and links)

For me personally, owning a gun was something I NEVER thought about.  It didn't even cross my mind for most of my life as a wife and mother. In fact, I was the mother that would not even allow her children to play with toy guns!

But, as so many of ours do, my life changed. Divorced with grown children, I suddenly began to realize my vulnerability and my inability to protect myself were the unthinkable to happen. My single lifestyle meant that I was going everywhere alone... to the store... to work...I was alone in my home every night...I drove 200 miles to visit my children. What would I do if my car broke down in a remote area? What would I do if...? So I began thinking seriously about my safety, and wondered about the possibility of acquiring a gun. Would I be able to use it? Could I shoot someone if I had to?

One daa friend took me to a shooting range so I could get the experience of holding and firing a gun. At first it was intimidating, but after the experience, I felt an exhilarating sense of confidence and empowerment. I knew that I was indeed capable of using a gun. From that day forward I never considered myself to be helpless again.
