Student Success - Tatyana Leonova; May Student of the Month
Tatyana Leonova is the May 2013 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove. She is in her second year of EASTERN's Commercial Art program and a senior at Lower Moreland High School. The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN's faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

At EASTERN, Tatyana is currently maintaining an 'A' average for the second year in a row in her Commercial Art program. She is actively involved in SkillsUSA, and is currently the School-Wide President for the afternoon session. For the second year in a row, she is part of the team  that will compete for Chapter Display at the national level in Kansas City, MO. SkillsUSA is a national student organization promoting good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and recognizes student achievement and excellence.

At EASTERN, Tatyana consistently volunteers her time as a student ambassador for EASTERN at events such as Career Expo and Open House.  At Lower Moreland High School, Tatyana has participated on both the Swim and Soccer teams.

After completing the Commercial Art program at EASTERN and graduating from Lower Moreland High School, Tatyana plans to attend Bucks County Community College, and then to matriculate to Temple University for her Bachelor's degree in International Business focusing on Accounting.  Ultimately, she would like to work for a large corporation in the accounting field, but also run a photo business on the side.
 Alumna Spotlight - BillieJo Goudy
EASTERN 2012 Cosmetology/Abington High School graduate, BillieJo Goudy, is currently working at New Waves Salon in Glenside.  BillieJo began working at New Waves as a first-year student in EASTERN's Cosmetology program.  She received her PA Cosmetology License in September, and is now working on building her clientele at New Waves. She is also attending Montgomery County Community College.

BillieJo's cousin took EASTERN's Cosmetology program when BillieJo was in 7th grade, and used her as a model for one of her projects.  It was at that point that her love of the cosmetology field blossomed.  Her main interest lies in hair care, such as coloring and styling.

"You can still go to college after taking a program at EASTERN.  I take classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and I work Wednesday through Saturday," said BillieJo. "It is not an either/or situation. New Waves has four other stylists, all of which are graduates of EASTERN's Cosmetology program."

BillieJo enjoys the salon environment, and plans to stay with New Waves throughout her career.

EASTERN Events - EASTERN's Awards Night Celebrates Another Great Year!
EASTERN's Awards Night was held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Upper Moreland High School.  This year, 122 students were recognized for their achievements, with $35,000 awarded in the form of scholarships, tools of the trade, plaques, certificates and checks. Awards Night recognizes students who are on the Honor Roll, Students of the Month through the year, medal winners at SkillsUSA District and State Competitions, winners of special end-of-year awards, and those who have perfect attendance.

Student awards are provided by the EASTERN Foundation, and supported by businesses, various community organizations, and individual donors.  The purpose of EASTERN's Foundation is to recognize EASTERN student achievement and success by assisting both students whose goal is post-secondary education and students who intend to start a rewarding career. Our business and industry partners inspired this effort and continue to support it extensively.

"It is never too early to start thinking about a career," said Thomas Allen, EASTERN's Administrative Director. "We are happy to be part of the career exploration process for these students and we truly enjoy having them here."
