April 2015

Welcome to the April Cirrostratus Group Newsletter.

Below I've shared information about two different panels that I have recently organized on Agile Product Owner vs. Product Manager and on the Internet of Things.

Amazon has just disclosed their cloud business numbers for the first time as part of their first quarter release. A $6 billion business growing at 50% per year is not bad. See some details and perspective below.

I am always interested in  your plans for developing and offering cloud applications. Let me know what you're working on.

Have Agile Teams Taken Over Product Management?

My colleague Bruce McCarthy will be the moderator for a panel on the topic of Agile Product Owner vs. Product Manager on May 7th. For the past couple of weeks, in my role developing programs for the Boston Product Management Association, I have been working with Agile New England on this exciting joint event including lining up a great group of panelists.

This event is free for BPMA members. You can sign up for a free basic BPMA membership here and then sign up for the event. Signups have been running well ahead of usual so if you are interested in the topic I strongly recommend that you sign up now.
Leveraging the Internet of Things to Create Value for the Connected Customer

My colleague Jeff Kaplan is the moderator of the BPMA panel on the Internet of Things that I helped organize. It will be on May 21st and will be focused on developing connected products in a variety of industries. I'm excited about this panel because it is focused on the end product opportunities, not on the infrastructure opportunities.

How Big is the Amazon Cloud Business?

Amazon just announced their first quarter results which includes a breakout of their Cloud Business. This article from Business Insider compares their revenue to their infrastructure competitors. The New York Times article gives another good perspective on the $6 Billion business that is growing at 50% per year.

Although there are some formidable competitors such as Google and Microsoft, Amazon continues to lead in the cloud infrastructure services business.
