Welcome to the March Cirrostratus Group Newsletter.

If you are working on pricing your SaaS offer I would recommend the workshop being put on by the Boston Product Management Association with Jim Geisman as the workshop presenter. I've known Jim for several years and he is extremely knowledgeable on this topic and a great presenter! This workshop is a very cost effective way to learn more on this important topic.

Major cloud providers continue to reduce their cloud pricing. See the information below about Google and Amazon's most recent reductions.

Microsoft just announced Office for iPad, another major step as a cloud provider. Read more about the details and implications below.

The Cloud Price War Continues

If you have done an ROI on infrastructure as a service versus a private cloud or some other type of internal datacenter  and thought that private cloud might be a good alternative, it's time to update your analysis and rethink your conclusions. If your conclusions to use a private cloud were at all based on pricing things have changed.

Both 2012 and 2013 had significant cloud price reductions and 2014 is starting out the same way with Google dropping their prices and Amazon matching those price drops. These are not insignificant reductions and in the case of on demand computing resources they dropped by 30-40%. Rightscale has done a nice job of comparing Google and Amazon pricing.
Office for iPad

Microsoft just announced Office for iPad this week. If you are an iPad user and would like to understand some of the detailed questions about the announcement here is a good article that can answer many of the questions. Personally, I find that Google docs works very well for the document and spreadsheet work that I do on the iPad.
More importantly is that this announcement is another step toward Microsoft being a cloud first company.
