February, 2014

Greetings!

Welcome to the February Cirrostratus Group Newsletter.

This month I've highlighted my recent blog post about the Netflix series "House of Cards". Don't worry this hasn't turned into a movie review newsletter, it applies directly to net neutrality and SaaS.

Open source continues to be an important SaaS building block, share your views on the Future of Open Source.

Why is this Series Slow?

I'm a fan of the Netflix show House of Cards but this isn't about whether Kevin Spacey's character, Francis Underwood, is like real politicians. "Slow" isn't about the pace of the show which I think is quite fast based. It's about why I see the "loading" sign on my TV screen while I'm streaming content from Netflix. I'm sure many of you have seen this a lot more lately. Read about what this has to do with your SaaS business.

I've written in the past about how to select open source software for use in SaaS and clearly SaaS relies on open source software at all levels but particularly at the infrastructure level. I think it is important to keep track of the trends and direction of open source and how that may impact SaaS businesses. The annual Future of Open Source surveys are one of the key ways to understand those trends. The current survey is open and I encourage you to fill it out.
