Third Rood Education Exchange Provides
Diversity Training for Yoga Teachers
Recognizing the Personal, Historical, and Institutional on the Way to Oneness
This workshop recognizes the potential of yoga to create a just and fair world, both individually and culturally-the very Yamas of yoga direct us to non-violence, integrity, non-greed, non-stealing, and modification of our energy. As yoga teachers, we are asked and expected to hold a lot - the hearts, souls and bodies of anyone who walks through our doors, and we are often not equipped to skillfully hold and heal dynamics of difference that are inevitably present in the room. Here we will plunge more deeply into an exploration of who we are individually, and how we unconsciously participate in dynamics of oppression or consciously show up in practices of alliance within the yoga classroom. Using yogic philosophies, and social justice practices, we will deeply explore what it takes to truly invite all walks of humanity to practice yoga, considering skillful language and action, and that which is harmful to different communities that we may be unaware of. This is a moment to dig deep, sharpen our awareness, and broaden our hearts, for the benefit of all students who may walk through the doors to our classrooms, who deserve to be held well. This workshop is for anyone who wants more tools, for anyone who has messed up or hurt someone, for anyone who feels unseen, dismissed, or injured in the yoga classroom.
Upcoming Training Dates:
May 16: Yoga Service Council Conference, Rhinebeck, NY
June 4: Harlem Yoga Studio, NY, NY
June 6: The Yoga Shala, NY, NY
June 7: Evolation Yoga, Atlanta, GA
