The majority of our consultants have over 25 years experience and most are master's prepared registered nurses. Hospital and home visits may be arranged.

When to seek Lactation Support

You need help if:

• You are concerned about low milk supply
• You feel your baby is not getting enough milk
• Your baby cries all the time
• Your baby sleeps all the time
• You have sore, cracked nipples
• You dread nursing because your nipples hurt the entire time
• The filling of your breasts (engorgement) does not occur by the 5th day after birth
• You are severely engorged
• Your baby does not latch onto your breast
• Your baby does not have 3 or more yellow, runny stools by day six
• Your baby has not regained birth weight at 2 weeks
• You have any other breastfeeding concerns

Producing breastmilk is natural, the art of latching a baby to the breast is learned. Sometimes what is supposed to come easily doesn't, and sometimes a breastfeeding problem occurs after discharge from the hospital. Our Lactation Consultants are professional health workers who are trained to help mothers manage lactation and reach their breastfeeding goals. They work in hospitals, doctors offices and in private practice within the community. Limited phone services are free; home visits and office consultations involve a fee.

Breastfeeding more than one baby can be very rewarding but also challenging. This class is led by a twins mom and lactation educator who will teach expectant parents how to feed their babies. We will cover how the body makes enough milk for multiples, various feeding strategies, and provide hands-on practice of different nursing positions. Discussion will also include feeding premature babies, how to use a breast pump, and tips for bottle feeding. We will answer all your questions, including the all-important one: "How do I know my babies are getting enough?"

This is an interactive 3-hour class and couples are encouraged to attend together.

Bring your baby to these special groups to share and learn in a friendly supportive atmosphere. Discussions are facilitated by lactation consultants and broach many topics including postpartum adjustment, feeding, burping, sleeping, gas and colic, normal newborn behavior, soothing fussy babies and breastfeeding. 

Expectant mothers are encouraged to attend a free New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Group (0-4 month group) prior to giving birth. Additionally, there is no charge for the first 0-4 month New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Group you attend with your baby.
